Dear Madison Parents,
Halloween is a fun and exciting day for all at the elementary school level. Please read the following letter to review some necessary protocols that help to ensure that this special day remains a fun one for all involved.
The Halloween parade will begin at 1:45 p.m. on Thursday, Oct. 31. Morning Kindergarten students will parade within the school at 10:20 a.m. Enter door 1 and sign in to view the kindergarten parade. Parties will begin immediately following the parade. Normally our all school parade is outdoors, weather permitting. The all school parade will start at door 1. Students will walk around the building to the back playground and to the south end of the property. Students will then travel up the sidewalk on Creekside Dr., past Madison Park and re-enter through door 1. In the case of inclement weather the gym and multi-purpose room will be reserved for parents and family members to view the parade. Parents who wish to view the indoor parade are required to enter Door 3 or 4 and sign in at the table.
All participating students must follow the following costume guidelines:
- All costumes must be non-violent. Please eliminate all weapons. Toy, knives, axes, guns, blood etc. are not allowed.
- Sharp objects should not be part of the costume.
- Costumes should not demean or poke fun at any group of people. They should be respectful of all people.
- Students should not wear masks that inhibit vision during parade and party.
- Parents that choose to dress in costume may do so without hiding their identity.
- Students may bring their costume to school in the morning. They may put them on after the lunch/recess hour. Madison will keep a regular school schedule during the morning hours. Any student going home for lunch MUST have a written note with parent permission.
If you do not want your child to participate in the parade and/or party, please notify your child’s teacher and the office so that we can provide an alternate activity.
Sincerely,
Tim Callahan, Principal
Madison Elementary

Volunteers needed for Battle of the Books
Battle of the Books is desperately seeking a committee chair or co-chairs. Without a committee
chair the club will not be able to run this year. The purpose of the program is to challenge 4th
and 5th grade students to read and become familiar with a variety of books. Participating
students read assigned books and meet weekly with parent volunteers to discuss the books, which prepares them for the weekly trivia bowl format battles at the Wheaton Public Library. Interested or have questions, contact Amy Angolkar at
president@madisonschoolpta.org by November 1.
Create a costume from recycled materials
Conservation Club is having a Halloween Costume contest.Create the best costume you can made of RECYCLED/REUSED or RE PURPOSED materials - any items that would otherwise be considered waste. You will get to participate in a parade and in a contest to see who is the most creative. Use what you have at home. Prizes will be awarded for the most creative, most scary, most funny and most recyclable.
Be sure to have your costume for the parade after lunch on October 31.

Save General Mills box tops and scan your receipt
General Mills is phasing out its clipped Box Tops, but some may still be found on products throughout the store. If you have Box Tops, send them into the LLC. If you've never been one to remember to clip and send in Box Tops but have a smart phone, just download the new Box Tops app, and scan your receipt to find participating products. The app will automatically credit Madison's earnings. Madison can earn ten cents for every General Mills box top scanned. The LLC has purchased many copies of award winning books. Let's continue the effort. Download the new app.
