A MESSAGE FROM THE PRINCIPAL...
Dear Parents,
Parent-teacher conferences are an opportunity to establish strong, clear communication between parents and teachers. Since children are different at home and in school, both the parent and the teacher gain in understanding the child and can, therefore, be more effective in helping him or her achieve their full potential.
Before the conference
Preparing for the conference can make the experience more rewarding. Ask your child if he has concerns or anything that he would like you to communicate to the teacher. If you are concerned about your child’s work, keep copies of material that illustrate your concerns. If only one parent of a two-parent household can attend the conference, it is helpful to take notes to share. In order to gain information about your child’s behavior and progress, you might prepare some questions that directly address your area of concern. Here are some possible examples:
1. Does my child arrive to class with his completed homework and his materials ready to start work?
2. Is my child able to persevere when given a difficult question or task?
3. Will my child willingly challenge a new task?
4. Is my child able to act as part of a group sharing in the workload?
5. Given a leadership role, does my child accept the added responsibility?
6. Does my child demonstrate compassion to students around him?
7. When a new topic is introduced, is my child inquisitive? Will she independently seek out additional information?
8. Is my child able to think through problems in a logical manner?
9. Having resolved a conflict, can my child reflect on what she might do differently next time?
10. When given a new assignment, is my child motivated to begin immediately and produce his best work?
11. Is my child able to express her opinion in class in a persuasive manner?
12. Does my child respond in a flexible manner when his schedule, teacher or routine is changed?
We look forward to spending time with you next week discussing your child and his/her development.
Sincerely,
Mr. Jeff Murphy
Proud Thompson Crossing Principal

A NOTE FROM THE NURSE...
A NOTE FROM THE COUNSELOR...
This month, we are focusing on being kind, compassionate, and loving human beings. I am teaching all the students about being a Bucket Filler. We all have our own invisible bucket that we carry around that holds our positive feelings and thoughts about ourselves. We can fill other people’s buckets by showing love, giving a smile, being helpful, giving genuine compliments, and all around being a kind person. When you fill someone else’s bucket, you are also filling your own because it makes you feel good helping someone else feel good. There is also a Bucket Dipper, which is someone who dips into other’s buckets by saying mean things, leaving them out, ignoring, or hurting them. The goal every day is to practice being a Bucket Filler!! If you would like to learn more about Bucket Filling, check out www.bucketfillers101.com and the book: Have You Filled a Bucket Today? By: Carol McCloud.
As always, please feel free to contact me with any questions/concerns about your child at danielle.york@ftcsc.k12.in.us
