What is Cyberbullying?

Cyberbullying is bullying done online to threaten or intimidate someone.

Examples Of Cyberbullying

  1. Rumors/threats posted on social media sites.
  2. Embarrassing photos being sent around school and social media sites
  3. Fake accounts being made.

Three differences between cyberbullying & bullying

  1. Face to Face --- Online, behind a screen
  2. Power imbalance between bully and victim --- Bully or bullies can remain anonymous
  3. Physical size can play a role --- Size don't matter

Effects of cyberbullying

  1. changes in sleep and eating patterns
  2. loss of interest in activities
  3. miss, skip or drop out of school
  4. receive poor grades
  5. have lower self-esteem, and use alcohol and drugs for pleasure

Prevention & awareness

  1. Give rules and time limits
  2. Tell no one your password but your parents
  3. Don't say or do anything you don't want your classmates or other people to see
  4. Don't arrange a face to face meeting with someone you just met online
  5. Speak up and tell no matter what

Establishing Rules

  1. Really become close with the person
  2. Don't give to much information
  3. Be in a rush to let someone know the situation
