Principal's Post
Week of May 23 - May 27, 2022
Dear Angell Community,
Thank you to the PTA for organizing a wonderful Ice Cream Social and celebrating Angell's Centennial birthday. The image above was created by Angell alum and artist, Chet Rhamstine. Below this note is Chet's memory of the Angell School song. A special thank you to superintendent, Mr. Scott Francis, for his opening remarks and fascinating history lesson. The evening by all measures was an outstanding success. Please enjoy the pictures throughout the post highlighting the night's events and showcasing our special guests who made the night memorable.
Traditionally, the end of the school year celebrates a big event at the end of every week. Next week is no exception as we celebrate the Annual Angell Idol Talent Show. After a two year in-person hiatus we are happy to share that our performance will be live on Friday, May 27th at 1:00 pm on the blacktop area located by the playground. Our entire community is invited to attend. We encourage our guests to set up in chairs (please bring your own from home) on the blacktop. It is not necessary to enter the building. We will share more information as the event draws closer. However, in order to accommodate the event please notice that we have adjusted Friday's lunch schedule. You will find the adjusted schedule posted below in the lunch section.
Also, a reminder that the Berkley School District is offering a FREE Summer Difference program for all all elementary students. The program will meet Monday-Thursday from June 27th - July 28th from 8:30 am to 11:30 am at Norup International School. There will also be a breakfast program offered at 8:00 am each day. For more information please use the Summer Difference located below this article.

PTA UPDATES
Week of May 23, 2022
Upcoming Events!
Berkley Fit Body Boot Camp Fundraiser
Make A Difference – In the lives of our students and your own!
Angell Elementary has put together a special fundraiser but we need your help! We have partnered with Berkley Fit Body Boot Camp who is helping us raise money for Angell programs through their 28-Day New You Program. What’s incredible is you will jump start your metabolism, get yourself primed for a great summer… AND help us raise money for Angell Elementary!
The best part: Berkley Fit Body Boot Camp is donating 100% of all of the proceeds back to Angell, AND helping our community be healthier!
Fit Body Boot Camp is a super friendly environment for people of all fitness levels regardless of your age or fitness level. This is NOT a military-style boot camp, so don’t let the name fool you. They are an indoor boot camp helping hundreds of local community members transform their lives! They are located just around the corner at 2309 Coolidge Highway.
This fundraiser has limited spots available, and will begin May 2nd! We’re excited to help provide greater educational opportunities for our students, and look forward to your support!

Angell Elementary promotes a school atmosphere which values safety, health, and a positive learning environment. While we recognize that what a student wears to school is a matter of individual taste, apparel which distracts from the educational process or is derogatory in nature will not be allowed.
Angell students are expected to dress for success every day. The following dress code regulations are for school and school related activities:
- Students may NOT wear clothing that advertises alcohol, tobacco, drugs, sexual exploitation, profanity, or violence.
- Pants worn below the waist line will not be permitted.
- Dresses, skirts, and shorts must be longer than the tips of student’s fingers when the arms are extended down the side of the body.
- Shirts must cover the midriff area and straps must be at least three adult fingers in width.
- Spaghetti straps (see above), low-cut shirts, backless shirts, strapless shirts, tube tops, and halter tops are not permitted.
- Flip-flops or other sandals that create a danger in running on the playground and in emergency situations are not advised, due to safety reasons.
Any student who violates the student dress code may be asked to change into spare clothing available in school or his/her parent will be contacted and asked to bring a change of clothes to the school. Failure to adhere to the Angell Dress Code may result in disciplinary action up to and including suspension from school.
Water Bottles Needed Daily
Students will play outside at a scheduled recess and at lunch each day. Although we have some shaded areas, students will be outside in direct sunlight throughout the day and will need to stay hydrated. It is generally recommended that a person drink five or more cups (8 oz) of water a day.
We appreciate your cooperation!
Sunny Day Reminders!
Sunscreen -- If you would like your student to have sunscreen at school, please fill out the Over the Counter Medication form and return it to the office with the sunscreen. We will keep the sunscreen in the office and have it available for your student to use. If your child is in grades 4-5 they may keep the sunscreen with them with both the Over the Counter and Medication Self Carry form completed. .
Kids Zone Fall Registration
Registration for before and after school care will take place during the week of May 16- May 20, 2022. Interested families should download the registration forms from the Kids' Zone website and email them to andrea.megroet@berkleyschools.org. Registration forms for the fall will be available on May 14, 2022, early forms will not be accepted. Families will be informed of acceptance into the program after June 1st, and the first month's tuition will be due in September. Priority will be given to families who register for five days per week. We have limited spaces in each school and spots fill quickly so please be sure to register during the application window. Once the program is full, students will be placed on a waiting list and contacted when space becomes available.
No longer is purchasing a back-to-school supply kit a luxury, it is a necessity. With all the supply chain issues it is the only way to order back-to-school supplies for next year.
In past years we have found 1st Day School Supplies to be convenient, easy and hassle free! Plus, they have guaranteed our school the impossible to find and highest quality brands like Ticonderoga, Crayola, Elmers, Fiskars, Purell and Clorox.
Order today before it’s too late!
