Welcome new SEED staff members!

We are pleased to announce that SEED has a full time restorative justice coordinator on our team.

Ms. Ni'mat Shaheed has begun observing our virtual classrooms and will support our students, staff and families with the RJ process.

Restorative Justice is Oakland schools has proven to be an effective strategy to reduce racially disproportionate discipline, suspensions and improve academic outcomes. At Manzanita SEED we intend to lift up restorative practices within our virtual classes, drawing upon practices and procedures that are field tested, including the use of the circle to promote building and repairing caring relationships, and creating positive school-wide culture.

Join me in welcoming our counseling intern Alejandra Acosta who is a student at CSU East Bay. She will support our COST coordination of services team and work with our licensed counseling team to support our students with counseling supports.

Join Principal Lang for our September chat centering antiracist educators

Message from OUSD regarding distance learning

Distance learning will continue for the near future
In July, Governor Newsom mandated that schools in counties on the state’s watchlist operate in distance learning. Alameda county remains on the watchlist and OUSD cannot resume in-person instruction until it is removed from the watchlist. Additionally, Alameda County recently updated its Shelter in Place Order, which reiterated that schools must remain in distance learning. We will keep our community up-to-date if/when things change.

Oakland Public Education Fund is now training volunteers to support distance learning through small group breakouts in Zoom, individual tutoring, and college mentoring. To request a volunteer, go to www.oaklandedfund.org/volunteer. Please refer anyone interested in volunteering to OPEF, so they can be trained, fingerprinted, and cleared before they volunteer with our students.
