Jack Stuart School - November 2022

In Our House

Administration Message by

Mr. Todd Sieben, Principal

Ms. Erica Easton, Assistant Principal

2 months down already in this our 2022/23 school year. Where has the time gone?

A few important items for your information …

We have completed our first month of the AMA safety patrol. We want to thank our grade 5 student patrollers for helping everyone arrive and leave Jack Stuart School safely each day. Our patrollers want to remind everyone of the three P’s … Point, Pause, and Proceed.

Winter has arrived. November has brought a change to our weather. Please remind your child to wear his/her toque, gloves, jacket, boots and snow pants. Don’t forget, clocks fall back 1 hour on November 6.

Again this school year, we dedicate 15 minutes right after lunch each day in our homerooms to Social-Emotional Learning (SEL). SEL is the process of learning skills and attitudes to develop a healthy identity, manage emotions, achieve personal and collective goals, show and feel empathy to others, build and maintain positive relationships, and make good decisions in life. SEL is part of our instructional time and is linked to the Alberta Education curriculum.

This month we pause in remembrance of the many who have and continue to fight for the freedoms we enjoy in Canada today. We remember the families who experienced the loss of loved ones, or the loss of time with those family members. We remember those who came back, and the men and women who made the ultimate sacrifice and did not make it home. Lest We Forget. Our JSS Remembrance Day assembly is scheduled for Tuesday, November 8 @ 10:45 am in our gymnasium.

We wish everyone a restful and rejuvenating fall break from Wednesday, November 9 to Tuesday, November 15. See you back on Wednesday, November 16.

Grade 1 to 5 report cards are arriving home on Friday, November 18. We are very proud of the hard work our students have displayed so far. Our teachers have put in many hours preparing for students to be successful in their learning every day.

Thank you to …

  • Two members of our staff, Mrs. D. Rak and Mrs. J. Raynard, for their hard work and passion in making breakfast possible at Jack Stuart School this year.

  • Several members of our Parent (School) Council for organizing and facilitating our hot lunch program. The lunches from Domino’s and Chopped Leaf have been delicious so far this year.

JSS Council & Parents’ Society

JSS Council & Parents' Society has a new secretary. Thank you to Jolene Doig for taking on this role. Now that this position is filled, we can continue the valuable work we do for the school. Thank you to Janeece MacKay for your commitment last year to this role.

We also have a new hot lunch coordinator which will enable us to continue running this program throughout the year. Thank you to Shauna Adloff for volunteering for this position. Our next hot lunch will be A&W on Nov. 23, followed by Subway on Dec.14. All orders will be due by midnight Nov. 16.

Our DFS fundraiser was a huge success with a $4900 profit (after taxes). Thank you very much to everyone who supported this fundraiser, we hope you enjoy your items.

The Rolling Hills Coffee fundraiser will run again in the new year as well as the Growing Smiles plant fundraiser again in the spring. If anyone is interested in running the fundraisers, please email jackstuartparentadvisory@gmail.com.

Our partnership with Save-On-Foods is ongoing so if you or any of your family or friends shop there please tell the cashier you would like to donate your receipt to Jack Stuart school. You will still get a regular receipt and we will receive 5% back from total purchases monthly. Thank you for supporting our school!

$2500 has been given to the school as a discretionary fund that will help pay for many things throughout the school this year. $2800 has also been given to the classrooms ($200 per class) for teachers to purchase extra items for the benefit of the students. Some classes may choose to pool their money to buy bigger items, or to share items purchased.

Please know that we put 100% of your fundraising dollars back into the school and our financials are presented at monthly meetings, and are always available upon request.

This year we have a break from buying Chromebooks, and are still trying to fund the playground addition (mostly through grants). If you have any suggestions of how you would like to see your fundraised money spent this year, please join a meeting and give us your feedback.

Please join us at our next Parent Council meeting followed immediately by our Parent Society Meeting on Nov. 23 at 7 pm via Google Meet and also in person in the school Learning Commons.
