Eagle Sightings November
Caspar van Haalen, Principal
Dear Families,
Thankful for the gorgeous weather we had for our Halloween parade through town, we are focusing on the Virtue of Thankfulness for the month of November. Students and staff will engage in conversations guided by the following:
Thankfulness is being grateful for what we have. It is an attitude of gratitude for learning, loving, and being. Appreciate the little things that happen around you and within you every day. Think positively. Thankfulness brings contentment.
SOAR
Our monthly SOAR Assemblies are opportunities for you to see how we celebrate student success. Up to four students per class receive specific recognition for practicing and modeling the Virtue of the Month. Starting this month, homeroom teachers will notify parents whose students will be recognized.
School Improvement
Our School Improvement Plan was officially approved by the Board on October 30. Staff and students will continue their great daily work, specifically in Reading and Love & Logic. Not only do we teach our students what to learn; we also teach them how to learn, so that they can transfer those skills and apply them in different contexts. By infusing our lessons and interactions with students with Love & Logic concepts, we are learning to meet the increasing demand for social-emotional accommodations. I encourage you to participate in the school improvement conversation by serving on our Leadership Team or attend the meetings as a visitor. Please see our office staff for more information.
Volunteers
A big thank you goes out to homeroom parents and other volunteers, without whom our school wouldn’t be the awesome place of learning that it is. If you are not involved yet, I would encourage you to volunteer your time to help in classrooms, the cafeteria, and on the playground.
Bicycle shelter
Another big thank you goes out to Roy in second grade, to Island Grind, and Ben Bailey for raising money for and building a fantastic bicycle shelter for our school. We are proud of our students that show they are leaders and of the community members that are so generous with their time and financial contributions.
Attendance
To ensure maximum exposure to quality learning, please have your child attend school on time and every day. Losing out on instruction can have long-lasting effects. www.attendanceworks.org has many great parent resources.
Veterans Day Assembly
Our Veterans Day Assembly is on November 8; our November SOAR Assembly is on November 26. Please scroll towards the bottom of our Eagle Sightings for more event dates.
Permission slips
When teachers plan field trips, it is important that you return signed permission slips to school on time. For logistical and other reasons, we cannot accept slip or phone calls the day of a field trip. Thank you for your understanding and cooperation.
Our elementary school is a learning community abuzz with excitement, inquisitiveness, and opportunities for growth. Every day, we congregate in an inclusive, safe environment. If you have any concerns about the physical and emotional safety of your student, please don't hesitate to contact me. You are also invited to lunch with me on “Lunch with the Principal” Fridays, the next one is the fifteenth.
In educational partnership,

Thank you for the great idea Roy!
Roy is a second grader who rides his bike to school most days all year long. Last year he thought it'd be nice to have a place to park his bike so it would stay dry. He collected money over the summer by selling lemonade and cookies and presented his idea to the PTO at the October meeting. As we enter the rainy months Roy's bike will be staying dry!
