Hawthorne LAB School Newsletter
January 10, 2017
Dear Hawthorne Families,
I hope you all had some peaceful time with your friends and family. As we are in the early stages of 2018, I am reminded of all of the wonderful activities of the past month and the exciting events and activities to come. For example, I want to highlight all of the activities that happened within one day on December 22nd: Student Experience Day. This included a polling station set up for all students to vote for our school mascot’s name. From a selection of 35 different names, we narrowed it down to three finalists. The three names were: Squawk, Blue, and Hawkthorne. The winner, with over 50% of the votes, was Hawkthorne! The name was revealed during our school spirit day assembly. We also created an extensive selection of clubs in which all of our students could participate. Staff members who were passionate about dancing, book making, cooking, fiber arts, TV game shows, drawing, and so much more led these clubs. (Please see the Hawthorne Student Experience Slideshow slideshow below) We concluded this special day with students presenting a heartwarming flash mob that they had worked on and choreographed as a surprise to me during the school assembly. Needless to say, our students are awesome! This is just an example of what happens within just one day. There are many more activities and fun to come in the coming months. Staff and students are beyond excited for the second annual staff versus students basketball game where we have invited our police and firefighters to participate as coaches and referees. As I continue to have the privilege to learn from our teachers, students, and the community that we serve, I will continue to work to ensure that all students are supported and challenged to reach their full potential at Hawthorne LAB School.
Take care,
Mr. Nguyen
