The Tiger Times
Week of November 6 through November 10
Hello Tiger Family!
and Happy Sunday!
I've thought so much about Sharpen the Saw Club Day since Thursday. It's one of the best moments I've had as a principal this year....and I've had a LOT!!
I've reflected on the feeling in our building Thursday morning during clubs. Everything felt a bit lighter because of the connections we were making with the students as we sharpened the saw with them. Several students asked Friday morning, "Is it clubs again??"
It made me wonder how can we have more of that "club feeling"? At drop off in the morning, Red Carpet Crew Club plays music (and maaybe dances a little:), greets kids and parents at their cars with "Good morning!!" & "Have a great day!" and high fives each kids as they come in the door. Several parents shared Saturday how much they love drop off and the fun everyone seems to be having. One dad in particular mentioned how thankful he was for everyone's enthusiasm and passion.
When we greet students at our doors in the morning, it's our opportunity to have a little "club" of our own. Your "club" might simply be doing the handshake/hug/fistbump you decided on at the beginning of the year, asking about something from the night before or you might be a music in the morning person, too. What you do doesn't matter as much as connecting with your students. The feeling of connection we had Thursday happens in those moments, too. These connections create relationships and relationships affect everything!
Blessed and blissed to be your principal,
Shelley
PS. Check out one of our 5th grade students talk about why success criteria is important to her in the video below. Thanks for sharing, Sloan!
