Roundtable Agenda

8:30 - 9:00: Arrival, Registration, and Networking

9:00 - 9:30: Welcome, Opening Remarks, Official Business

9:30 - 11:30: NGSS Implementation Discussion.

Invited Speakers:

  • Wil van der Veen, Science Education Institute Director, RVCC
  • Stacey van der Veen, Founder and Lead Consultant NGSSPD

Wil and Stacey will share their experience and lessons learned as a result of being at the forefront of providing professional development for educators in the Next Generation Science Standards. We will discuss with them their successes, challenges, and what lies ahead for bringing NGSS instruction into every science classroom.

11:30 - 12:30: Lunch and vendor presentation from Activate Learning

12:30 - 2:00: Member Roundtable Discussion and Break-Out Groups

  • Break out groups will discuss information from the morning session, items from group discussion, and topics that will be generated from member feedback through the registration process. A preliminary list of these topics will be emailed to the membership approximately a week before the roundtable.

2:00 - 2:30: Wrap up and Departure

The roundtable agenda is the same for both locations. We will be linking remotely by video.

Computer Science Education week is December 7 - 13. In support, many schools are participating by committing to providing students with at least an hour of exposure to basic coding. Interested? Resources can be found at the Hour of Code Website.
