Fulmore Middle School Newsletter
Week of 1/8/2016
From The Principal
Greetings Falcon Families and Happy New Year to all!
I hope that all our Falcon students, parents, teachers, and staff enjoyed the two week break and had lots of rest and relaxation. Fulmore had a successful first semester - improved academic performance, improved student attendance, high student involvement in extracurricular activities, and overall high Fulmore Falcon spirit by all members of the community. Thank you to all who made that happen! It really does take a village.
For the month of January, we will be hosting 5th grade students from around the district who are considering making Fulmore their home for their middle school years. Outstanding 6th grade students will be serving as “shadow hosts” so that our guests have a true glimpse of what middle school life is like at Fulmore.
Next week we are will have our semester award ceremony celebrating students who have demonstrated high academic achievement, perfect attendance, and outstanding citizenship as selected by teachers to earn the prestigious Falcon Pride Award during first semester. At the start of the ceremony we take a few minutes to explain to students and families’ acceptable behaviors and expectations during an award ceremony celebration. Families will receive notification if your child will be awarded next week.
Girls soccer and boys basketball is underway this season. Next week, boys will be playing against Lamar Middle School on the 14th, and girls will be playing Saturday, January 16th at Means Middle School. Please come out to cheer on our students.
Attention 7th and 8th grade families: Don’t forget to attend the first annual high school showcase at the Palmer Event center tomorrow, Saturday, January 9th from 9:00 – noon. Come check out what all high schools have to offer.
Next Monday at 4:00 p.m. we have our monthly Campus Advisory Committee, CAC meeting in the Library. Hope to see you there.
Tuesday, January 19th from 5:30 to 7:30, our annual Evening of Wonder featuring our Magnet Program. In addition to sharing information about a Magnet program, families will have to the opportunity to explore all facets of Fulmore Middle School and our offerings to potential magnet, comprehensive, and dual language students. It will be a fabulous opportunity to visit our programs and see student performances, discussions, and work in action. Please spread the word and encourage others to attend.
Please continue to set aside time each day for your child to read and do homework. School safety remains our number one priority. A gentle reminder we have adult supervision on campus from 7:45 a.m. to 3:45 p.m. daily. We have many activities before and after school that students are welcome and encouraged to participate in that have adult supervision. Fulmore students must be a participant in these activities if they are on campus before or after the 7:45 a.m. to 3:45 p.m. school day.

Conversation Corps
AISD is a partner in Conversation Corps. The topic for January is Water Conservation & Sustainability. The Austin area has been in the grip of an epic drought for more than 7 years. While there has been some significant rainfall in the city during the last year and a half, rain has not fallen in the watersheds of the lakes in any manner to significantly increase lake storage. Austin’s water supply remains secure, but the drought has required dramatically increased conservation and drought response.

From the PTA
The executive board is meeting in the library Monday morning, January 11, at 7:45. All are welcome!
Next Thursday, January 14 is our first teacher breakfast of the new semester. Please help us begin the new year building from our fantastic events in December! As usual, Jo's Coffee is donating coffee & we hope to have donations of breads from Panera. But the biggest treats are parent contributions - particularly fruit and protein items.
PTA is assisting the Magnet program with its annual Night of Wonder on Tuesday, January 19. Keep an eye out for an email with VolunteerSpot signup opportunities.
Last but not least, we are making progress with our BoxTops campaign and wanted to alert you to a wonderful opportunity offered by HEB. Through January 19, when you buy 15 Box Tops products, you can earn 100 bonus points or a $10 value. There's also a program called Cash for Education through HEB, a referral program that offers some great benefits. Please consider checking it out and signing up.
