April News
Kenneth J. Tice Elementary
Principal's Points!
Dear Tice Families,
Welcome to the month of April! Easter Break is right around the corner and the next couple of months will continue to be filled with many family events, District Assessments and State Assessments. Students in 3rd and 4th grades are preparing to take STAAR Reading and Math and 5th graders are preparing for STAAR Science in May.
Students in grades PK-2 will also be assessed by district and campus assessments during the month of May. Please make sure that your child is completing homework assignments, reading daily, and practicing math skills.
This is also a great time to schedule a conference with your child's teacher if you are concerned about their academic progress or have questions. It is imperative that we continue to develop a strong collaborative relationship in order to meet the educational needs of your child. We also need you to make sure that your child is arriving to school on time (7:40) every day and that they are reading nightly. WE are here to help your child be the “BEST” he/she can be!
As always, thank you for your support, and I look forward to seeing you at our next event! This month we hope you join us for parent conferences the first week in April and our annual Book Fair held April 24-28. Come out and support the Tice students and staff that are working to connect with the community.
Wishing you a rejuvenating Easter Break!

Mrs. Flynn- School Counselor
April's character education theme for the month is Self-Discipline. Self-Discipline is the ability to be in control of our actions so that we can make positive choices that benefit us as well as others.
College and Career Spotlight
The college spotlight for the month is on Lamar University. We will spotlight careers in Arts & Humanities this month.
Student Involvement
Tice Tigers are raising money to support Relay for Life. Every Friday in April, you can give $1.00 to Mrs. Ashley Garcia and wear a baseball cap.
Kindergarten through fifth grade students are participating in our “Sweet Dreams of My Future” career day on April 13. We would like for all of our students to dress for success on that day, and wear their professional attire/Sunday best.
Please wish our Leading Ladies good luck as they participate in their 5K race on April 29!
Tice Science Corner...Interesting Fact
Gravity on the moon is a sixth of what it is on Earth. Someone who weighs 150 pounds (68 kg) on this planet moves the scales at only 25 pounds (11 kg) on the moon. Its gravity is so much lower because the moon is just 1 percent the mass of Earth. Your weight on the various planets would vary greatly. If you could stand on Jupiter, you'd weigh more than twice as much.
IMPORTANT REMINDERS!
Lost and Found: It is time to check lost and found for your scholar's missing sweater, coat, lunchbox, etc. All unclaimed items will be donated to a local shelter.
