Parent/Teacher Conferences

Dates: Monday, November 2 and Wednesday, November 4.

Times: 12:00PM-7:00PM

We are looking forward to meeting with families next week and to share all the exciting progress your child has made this year. It is a busy two days for teachers and time goes by very quickly. We will do our best to stay on our schedules. We do ask for families to join the Zoom meeting five minutes before your scheduled time. You will be placed in the waiting room until your conference starts.

Below are some helpful tips as you prepare for next week's conferences.

Before the conference

  • Ask your child how they feel about school.
  • Ask your child if there is anything that they want you to talk about with their teacher.
  • Tell your child that you and the teacher are meeting to help them.
  • Make a list of topics that you want to talk about with the teacher.
  • Prepare a list of questions such as:

1. What are my child's strongest and weakest subjects?
2. Does my child hand homework in on time?
3. Does my child participate in class?
4. Does my child seem happy with their learning environment?
5. What can I do at home to help?

During the conference

  • Be on time (or early) for the meeting.
  • End the meeting on time. Other parents will probably have a conference after yours.
  • Relax and be yourself.
  • Stay calm during the conference.
  • Ask the most important questions first.
  • If your child receives special services, ask about your child's progress in those classes.
  • Ask for explanations of anything you don't understand
  • Ask your child's teacher for ways that you can help your child at home.
  • Thank the teacher.

After the conference

  • Talk about the conference with your child.
  • Talk about the positive points, and be direct about problems.
  • Tell your child about any plans you and the teacher created.
  • Keep in touch with the teacher during the school year.

11/2-11/6 Specials

Please use this week to catch up on any Specials lessons you haven't completed yet. For students who are up to date on all lessons, please use the "You Choose Board" during your Specials time on Thursday and Friday.

November 2nd and 4th

With conferences occurring, November 2nd and 4th will be half days. K-5 students will be remote on these days. Those days will be SYNCHRONOUS and students will Zoom in with their teachers.

Here are the times for grade levels on those days.

K-2: 8:00-11:00

3-5: 8:30-11:30

Mock Presidential Election

The results are in. The winner of our MES Mock Presidential election is....Kermit The Frog!!

Total Votes

Kermit The Frog = 478

Miss Piggy = 195

We learned this week that it is not about who gets the most votes, but the number of electoral votes one gets. Below is what we used this week to show the students how presidential elections work. Each class was assigned a state. We shared why certain states get more votes (the amount of people who live there). In this case, Kermit won by a landslide with electoral votes. I showed them an example of the 2016 election where President Trump won, but did not get the most votes.

We hope this gives students a better idea of the electoral college and can get some understanding of it when they observe things next Tuesday on Election Night.
