PROJECT 3
Skirt Anna Bilek
For this project I made a skirt out of one of my dad's old button up long sleeve shirts. I used the fabric from the arms to create a waistband and had to take in fabric from both sides. I didn't use a pattern or a certain tutorial but I just took ideas off of various online tutorials. This project emphasized how important it is to think processes through and not to wing it, also it used a lot of sewing to create hidden edges where the stitching doesn't show.
For this project the fabric used was a plaid red and green cotton fabric. It is heavy enough to be durable but light enough to be comfortable. It feels very soft. Sewing practices that were important were knowing how to sew edges where stitching doesn't show and ways to gather access fabric and sew it into the waistband. I needed previous knowledge of how to create pleats in order to complete this project.
I chose to make this project because I had tried it before and it was more difficult than I thought, so I decided to retry it and challenge myself to make a wearable product this time. Yes this product challenged me mainly because of the different thought processes I had to go through in order for the skirt to fit me and lay correctly. For the next time I think I could improve upon changing the way the pleats lay; whether that means removing the pleats or not. I ended up very satisfied with the product because I had previously attempted the same thing but failed and this time I tried again and achieved my vision.
