Summer Work Permits
Want to get a job this Summer? You need to have a work permit to work if you are under 18.
If you get a job over the summer you will need a work permit application which you can download and print out: here.
Once you have this filled out (including one of your parent's signatures and your employer's signature) drop it by the College & Career Center here on campus. Mr. Soderback is in the College & Career Center until June 30th M-F 8:00 - 3:30 PM. He will print you out the official permit and sign it so you can take that back to your employer. You can also email him at
stephensoderback@vistausd.org for more information!
Note - If you are a senior and still 17, you do NOT need a work permit as you will be a high school graduate. You do not need a work permit once you have graduated from high school.

- Chromebook prices (up to $480) and the cost of repairs (up to $150 for a broken screen) have both increased as newer models are purchased, and the "insurance" for the 21/22 school year ends on June 30. VUSD offers a Mobile Device Cost Replacement Plan [MDCPP] which protects against accidental damage and theft/loss for up to two incidents per school year. This covers the Chromebook only, not the adapter, wifi hotspot, etc. The Chromebook insurance for 22/23 can now be purchased with this LINK! The cost is still $20. For more information and to purchase, see the MDCPP information flyer in English or en Espanol.
- 9th-11th graders can keep Chromebooks and chargers only. All books, hotspots, calculators must be returned and fines cleared by June 10. Registration could be delayed if they wait until August to return items.
- Seniors are to have all items returned to the Library/Annex and any fines paid prior to June 3. Graduating seniors with outstanding items on June 3 will have their diploma pulled, and transcripts held. They will be able to clear June 9-17 and pick up their diploma at that time.
- Students needing any of these items for summer school, can check them out during the first week of summer school at the Annex from 7:30-8:30 a.m.
San Diego County Library
The San Diego County Library has made its digital and audio books available to thousands of local students throughout the county. Students at Vista USD, using just their student IDs, may check out the library’s collection of age-appropriate digital materials via Sora, an app used by school districts.
Every Vista USD student can check out the San Diego County Library’s Book of the Month with their student ID through the Sora app— the ebook and the audiobook! These titles have unlimited access for this month only.

The Importance of Community Engagement
The work we do as Community Liaisons is built on interactive methods that bridge communication between our school and the community. Our culturally rich experiences serve as our foundation for helping our students and their parents in a safe and loving environment. Based on the demographics of our community, Spanish is the home language for many of our families and for this reason we provide bilingual support while also acknowledging and honoring all languages, backgrounds, and narratives. We assist in facilitating families with access to communication and resources. In our mission, we strive to make our greatest efforts to preserve our connections and encourage learning and education for both our students and their families. -Dalia R. Hipolito Martinez
