Howdy Cougars!
Positive rewards for positive behavior is what we’re all about here in Smallville U.S.A. We know that a carrot motivates best of all, and we spend our time building relationships with each student to discover what type of carrot incites them to do their very best.
One way we are hoping to elicit positive behavior from our students in the cafeteria is through our new Game Zone (clever acronym to be added later) in the front foyer. We have a ping pong table and a foosball table available to the students after they’ve eaten their lunch and cleaned their area. So far, the kids are loving it, but we are limited to how many we can serve due to the number of games. If you have an old ping pong or foosball table, or even an air hockey table, lying around collecting winter clothes and teapots, shoot me an email and we will see if we can take it off your hands. Also, if you have any board games (chess, checkers, jenga, etc…) you wish to donate, let us know and we will add them to the Game Zone as well.
Fun in Fundraiser: Towards the end of the year we will be having various fundraisers that serve two purposes: to raise money for the campus, and to allow our students to have fun in a safe, structured environment. We love raising money this way as it gives our kids a social experience with their friends and community under our watchful eye, while also allowing them to give back to the campus. Events to take place in the next few weeks are:
After School Athletic Fundraiser (April 28, 4-7pm): We will be hosting an after school event in order to raise money for equipment and coaches so we can continue with our “no cut” policy. Students will have concessions, ping pong, air hockey, foosball, and video games in the cafeteria, and athletic activities upstairs in the gym. 3 v 3 basketball tournament and volleyball will take place in the Big Gym, while the first ever CSMS Dodge Ball tournament takes place in the Small Gym.
Spring Fling Dance (May 5, 3:45-8pm): The Cheer squad will be hosting this end of the year dance which will be staggered: 6th grade form 3:45 - 5:30 and 7th and 8th grade from 6-8. Make sure your student gets h/her groove on and email Ms. Lamkin if you would like to help.
Hello Summer! Spring Carnival (May 25 , 4-7pm): Year 2: Electric Bugaloo! This event is tailor made for the whole family and community. We will have inflatables, a kiss the pig contest, chicken poop BINGO, a dunking booth, and more concessions than you can imagine, all in our very own Backyard. This PTA fundraiser serves as the best
community builder of the year and is a great way to give back. We want all students, present and future, and parents to head on out to this event and help make it even better than last year’s.
Lot’s of events coming up...stay tuned for more details!
