8th Grade Update
October 14, 2016
Dear 8th Grade Families,
We've been working hard this week! On Monday, we began writing our high school application essays. From the very start, we've been focused, determined, and extra thoughtful with our written work and we're feeling more confident than ever. Our essays are coming along beautifully and we will continue to work on them throughout the next week. Don't forget: If your child is applying to a fourth high school or to a non-Catholic school, the responsibility of completing those applications is in the hands of our 8th graders and parents. Students can work on their essays every night. Everything they need for success has been shared with them in their very own Google folder. Enjoy your weekend!
Important Reminder: HSPT Registration Closes on October 31st!
We need your help!
The 8th graders will be hosting a major fundraiser soon and we need parents to help! During our Fall Festival on Saturday, October 29th, 8th grade will be hosting our annual Haunted House from 1-5pm. This is the biggest and most successful fundraiser we have as an 8th grade class and it's extremely important that anyone who can help does. Julian's mom, Sra. Reyes, has graciously taken the lead on organizing this event and I'm inviting the rest of you to help in her effort! We are in need of both volunteers and donations. Please join Sra. Reyes for a brief planning meeting at the school tonight beginning at 6pm.

TUITION ASSISTANCE: INVESTIGATING & APPLYING
As you know, ADW Tuition Assistance opened last week and families are responsible for logging into their TADS account and completing the application for tuition assistance. At this point, families should have already started investigating additional tuition assistance options offered from your high schools. Visit school websites and call admissions offices to inquire.
Prepare your child for the HSPT
Even though we're currently working on high school essays, all 8th graders should still be doing their Quizlet and Schoology HSPT prep practice nightly. I encourage families to consider purchasing the HSPT app for your Smartphone. It's called Nerd COACH and will cost you $6.99. I purchased it to try it out myself and I definitely think it's worth it. It provides test prep for both the Language and Math sections of the HSPT. Don't forget: studying every night will lead to higher test scores and more high school options!
