The Living Fossil
The Living Fossil. The horseshoe crab, a distant relative of sea spiders and scorpions, is a natural wonder that has survived for more that 350 million years. Known as the world’s oldest living fossils, horseshoe crabs are characterized by their nearly impenetrable design. Among many unique features, these sea creatures have ten eyes, receptors on their tails, and a hard shell that they shed as many as seventeen times in a life time. Their blue blood has also been found to be a vital aid in human health.
