Hi Cannon Parents!
We have two more weeks before our students and families will enjoy a week-long Fall Holiday break - November 20th-24th. These two weeks are PACKED with some great activities & opportunities for the whole family! Be sure to mark your calendars for all of these events:
- DINE OUT & SUPPORT our school by eating out at Chick-Fil-A on Cubs Night Out on Wednesday, November 8th!
- PTA's Burger, Books, & Boogie is scheduled for Friday, November 10th. Don't forget that your meals must be ordered in advance from the In-N-Out Burgers Truck. See information in PTA section of this newsletter about this event!
- Family Engineering Night is Thursday, November 16th. We have a wonderful evening planned for our families, including engineering activities in each grade level, an opportunity to check out the TAME STEM truck that will be at Cannon, and a chance to do some early shopping at the Book Fair. - Grandparent's/Grandfriend's Day will be held on Friday, November 17th from 7:45-10:00 am. This will be our 2nd year to host this event and we can't wait! We had almost 300 guests attend last year and it was such a memorable day! Please see information in this newsletter to RSVP for a grandparent/grandfriend to attend this event!
- HALFWAY THERE! PTA's goal for this year's a Read-A-Thon is to raise $10,000 and we are over halfway there!! Thank you to all that have already donated and please continue to share Information about this unique fundraiser with family and friends who want to help support your child and our school. The money that is raised will support ongoing student programs, as well as staff & student enrichment. Students will receive prizes based on funds raised and minutes spent reading. This is a GREAT way to encourage wonderful reading habits for your child(ren) AND support our school! There are some awesome prize incentives, including Principal for the Day; Lunch & Limo; Rita's Ice Parties; and selecting prizes from the Prize Patrol!

Burgers, Books & Boogie
Burgers: In-N-Out will cook fresh hamburgers and cheeseburgers in a food truck at Cannon Elementary. Meals are $5 and include a burger, chips and a drink. (Grilled cheese is available on request in place of a burger.) Meals will be served from 6 to 7 pm and MUST be pre-purchased. Please return form with payment by Friday, November 3.
Books: PTA will host a book exchange. Please bring in books your child has outgrown or already read, they can swap with other Cannon students. Please swap books in good shape, no missing pages please. There will be book swap boxes at all Cannon entrances starting November 6.
Boogie: After the burgers and books, let’s boogie. Students, siblings and parents can boogie during the student dance the Cannon gym. The dance will start at 7 pm and end at 8:30 pm. Dress comfortably and don’t forget your dancing shoes!

VETERAN'S DAY PROGRAM - November 10th- ALL STUDENTS WEAR RED, WHITE, & BLUE!
On November 10, 2017, from 7:40-8:30 a.m., we will be honoring all Veterans of the U.S. Military during a celebration at our school. We will have some VERY special American Heroes joining our celebration this year, including:

Staff Sergeant Leroy Petry Medal of Honor Recipient
Phil Vandel (entertainer)
We would love for any family members currently serving, retired, or have a family member serving to please join us in this special celebration!
We want to show our appreciation for all they have done for us and our country. If you or a family member who is a veteran can attend to be recognized, please complete this form to let us know who we can add to our guest list.
COME MEET THE CANNON & GMS STUDENT STEMBASSDORS @ THE BARNES & NOBLE MINI-MAKER FAIRE ON NOVEMBER 11th & 12th!
Cannon & GMS Student STEMbassadors will be showcasing a variety of STEM learning tools, robotics, and electronics at this mini maker faire next weekend! Please make plans to stop by with your family to see this awesome event! A percentage of purchases made at the Southlake Barnes & Nobles on 11/11 & 11/12 or online at BN.COM/Bookfairs will be donated back to our schools! When making purchases, please use Bookfair ID #12252300 when checking out, in order for our schools to get a percentage. Online purchases count too, so do some early holiday shopping and help our schools!

Grandparents & Grandfriends Day is Friday, 11/17!
We are excited to invite Grandparents/Grandfriends to come visit our school on Friday, November 17th, from 7:45-10:00 am.

You will note that there is a link in the invitation, so that all grandparents can be registered online and RSVP for the event. Our guests should plan to arrive at Cannon at 7:45 am and we will begin our day in the cafeteria with breakfast refreshments & a special welcome by Mrs. Blizzard. Following this, our guests will be escorted to the classrooms of their grandchildren to spend some time in class, sharing memories and participating in some fun classroom activities! Our Cannon Cubs who have a special guest visiting at this event will also be able to take them the Book Fair and visit the memory photo booth!

Read-A-Thon
The PRIZE PATROL will be visiting classes early this week to award prizes to students. Students earn a prize with as little as $10. Many students are very excited about the lunch and limo prize. Every student that earns $100 will get to leave Cannon in a LIMO for lunch at Cici's with Mrs. Blizzard. Burgers, Books & Boogie - Friday, November 10
Please join us for a night of family FUN. Burger Meals MUST be pre-ordered, we extended the deadline until Tuesday, November 7. You can print the order form here, https://goo.gl/7Q89kt. OR you can purchase tickets online until noon on Tuesday. (https://www.cannonpta.com/product-page/in-n-out-burger-meal ). The price online is higher to cover the credit card processing fees.
Cub Night Out at Chick-fil-A Night - Wednesday, November 8
Join Cannon teachers at Chick-fil-A on William D Tate. Chick-fil-A will donate a portion of all sales to Cannon PTA.
Book Swap - November 10
Our book swap books are out at all Cannon entrances and ready to collect books. Bring in books you have outgrown or no longer use and exchange with other Cannon friends. All students will select books during Burgers, Books and Boogie.

Holiday Food Basket Donations
Each year, Cannon staff and students collect food items for holiday baskets to be delivered to a Cannon family in need. Each grade level has specific items that are collected to help create these food baskets. Our counselor and the students in our KC Club will be working together to organize & deliver these holiday baskets during the next several weeks. Please see the lists below for grade level requests. Thank you for your donations to help those in need during the holiday season!
GRAPEVINE HISTORY BOOK FUNDRAISER
Grapevine: A Visual Journey Through A Beloved Texas Town is a 152-page book that highlights Grapevine's intriguing history public art, working artists, attractions, and seasonal events. Fifty percent of book proceeds will go to the GCISD school of the buyer's choice until January 1, 2018. Books must be purchased at the approved website, www.GrapevineTexasJourney.com to meet fundraising requirements. The cost of the book is $49.95 (plus tax and $5 shipping).
