The red on the flag is for the blood of martyrs, white stands for the purity of Buddhism, and blue resembles the monarchy.
History
After Thailand changed its name from Siam in 1939 it became occupied temporarily by Japan in WWII. Then Yingluck Shinawatra became the first female prime minister after her brother was removed from office and she also banned ivory trade.

The official language spoken in Thailand is Central Thai, although some people speak Laos or Khmer. The country also allows a freedom of religion, but the majority (95%) are Buddhists. Many people in cities like Bangkok wear western style clothing and villagers wear the traditional clothing line. Poster and physical gestures are very important among Thais.

Popular sports in Thailand are soccer, table tennis, badminton, volleyball, and basketball. The youth also enjoy dancing. They must like to get out a lot because a family of five may share a one room apartment. One interesting thing the men do when they get married is to give the parents of the bride a bride price.
