The Weekly Buzz 🐝
From Palmer River Elementary School
September 29, 2023
This week, we celebrated our Summer Reading Champions! We are so proud of all of the students who read all summer long and logged their learning. Did you know that reading at home is one of the most important factors in helping your child learn to read for pleasure? Research shows that the benefits of reading for pleasure are extensive and far-reaching. Some benefits of reading for pleasure are listed below:
It boosts academic achievement, and provides a foundation for critical, digital, and information literacy.
It builds cognitive function and stamina when immersed in the flow of reading.
It develops empathy and knowledge — of self, other worlds, culture, heritage, and ways of being and thinking.
It empowers students to become active citizens.
It improves and builds psychological wellbeing and healthy behaviors.
It can be relaxing and provide an escape.
It helps young children learn about the world around them.
If you should need assistance, please email or call us anytime. We are happy to help.
Sincerely,
Mrs. Kristine Kefor, Principal

#WeAreDR!
Coming to PRES...
We have some very exciting news to share! Very soon we will be getting a very exciting software program called Lexia Core 5. This program is a wonderful way to enhance each and every child's reading skills and it requires the use of headphones. If your child does not keep headphones at school, please send in a labeled pair that they can keep at school for the duration of the school year so they may access this important learning tool.
