Annual Grade Level IB/College Meetings
Sophomores: September 16th

All grade level presentations will be available on the website following each meeting.
The annual college/IB/ICAP meetings are specifically focused on the requirements, deadlines of the IB Diploma, the IB/ICAP program, and the college application process for attending a four-year college. Ms. McCahon (IB Coordinator) and Ms. Ignaitis/Ms. Rocha (College Counselors) present specific information and a different focus for each grade. Meetings are for students and parents. A meeting in Spanish for parents will be held directly after this meeting.
All meetings are virtual from 6-7 pm (Followed by meeting in Spanish). Zoom links are posted below and on the Sequoia Homepage Calendar.

CSF Applications Period Now Open for SPRING 2020 Grades
DUE TOMORROW: Sept 14th at 3:45 – Don’t Wait! No Late Exceptions!
Since most are doing distance learning, CSF is allowing schools to accept Credit/Pass grades as well as using an online application. Unfortunately if you received a “No Pass” in any of your classes last semester, you are not eligible for CSF but you can apply next semester.
If you need to learn more about CFS, please refer to the website.

SENIORS keep in mind that you should make every effort to attend College Rep visits hosted by Sequoia or another school in our district as it allows for a bit of an advantage to personally get to know the school’s admissions’ representatives - sometimes the very people who will be reading your applications!

Davidson Virtual College Workshops
Sept 9th - Nov 4th
Join the Davidson College Admission Staff and other admission professionals this fall for a workshops series to help prepare you for the college search and application process. Sessions will cover topics ranging from essay writing to interview preparation to making the most of virtual college visits. All workshops are free but space is limited in some sessions. Future Grads
Future Grads supports students to and through college graduation. Our students receive advising on college applications, financial aid forms, and college selection. They also develop social-emotional skills, including how to ask for help, access resources, and build support networks. Unlike other college access programs that only accept high-achieving students, Future Grads is open to any student.

EPATT: Free Tutoring and Classes for Students
EPATT is a free extended-day learning program for first- through twelfth-grade students from the community. EPATT offers its unique mix of academic tutoring, parent education and tennis instruction.” This fall they are offering virtual programs.

Healthy Cities
A great and most rewarding way to give back to your community is to become a tutor. Some key points of the program: One hour a week – Flexible times – No previous experience needed – Ages 14-99 – Training provided – Earn community service hours.

Interested in Working on a Political Campaign?
Students can get involved in a high energy progressive run by joining the Kumar for Congress 2020 all-year Internship program. There are many opportunities that work for your flexible schedule, that involve pandemic work, community work, political campaign work and activism with specific local challenges.

Local Community Service Opportunity at Riekes Center
The Riekes Center for Human Enhancement is continuing to offer opportunities for students to volunteer within our community this fall. Community service opportunities are now virtually available 6 days a week. During our virtual meetings, students collaborate on projects that directly give back to the local community as well as engage in learning opportunities-- all in the spirit of helping others.

Over the past few weeks we have been investigating the feasibility, interest, and utility of hosting the SAT for Sequoia 12th-graders who have not yet had the opportunity to take the exam because of the cancellations last spring.
Along with our College/Career Coordinators Terri Ignaitis and Nancy Rocha, I will host a brief informational meeting this Monday (9/14/20) at 4:15PM on Zoom (Link Here) which will include information about how to reserve a spot for our tentative SAT.

Senior General 4 Year College Information
Requesting Transcripts
Students request transcripts on Naviance on the Colleges I'm Applying to tab.
The only transcripts that need to be requested AT THIS TIME are for OUT OF STATE public colleges and some Non Common App private colleges that do not require a school report
DO NOT REQUEST TRANSCRIPTS FOR:
1. UC/CSU - Not required with your application
2. ANY College Listed on your School Report/LOR Form- They will be sent automatically by your counselor with your school report
There is a five school day turn around for the Guidance Department to send transcripts.

Senior Counseling Appointments
Hello Class of 2021!
Welcome back to school and your senior year! Counselors will be virtually meeting with seniors for mandatory individual appointments from September 14th through October 9th to review graduation status and post-secondary plans.
Seniors must schedule a 30 minute appointment with their assigned counselor by clicking on this

(Note: You can check to see who your counselor is on IC under the Reports tab and click on Unofficial Transcript or on your IC schedule)
Instructions on how to make an appointment:
1. Choose a date & time between September 14 & October 9th to meet with your counselor.
2. Save your appointment on your electronic device calendar and/or jot it down in your planner.
3. If possible, we recommend that you book your 30 minute appointment outside of synchronous learning time. We recommend making an appointment during a free period, on Wednesdays, during PE or an elective class.
4. If you need to miss a class, please communicate with your teacher before you miss their class and make a plan to catch up on what you miss.
5. If you are missing class, please forward your appointment email confirmation to your teacher or screenshot your appointment confirmation & email it to your teacher. This is proof of your scheduled appointment with your counselor.
6. Make sure to virtually attend your appointment and if you need to reschedule, please communicate with your counselor in advance. Remember, this is a mandatory senior meeting with your counselor.

Scholarship of the Week!
The Elks National Foundation (ENF) awards 500 four-year scholarships based on academics, leadership, and financial need. National awards range from $1,000 per year to $12,500 per year. The national awards will be announced in April 2021. Our Redwood City Lodge will award 10 students with $1,500.
MVS scholarships are for students pursuing a four-year degree on a full-time basis (minimum of 12 semester hours), at a U.S. college or university next school year. Some important applicant details include:
- Current high school seniors (or equivalent) who are citizens of the United States are eligible to apply.
- Applicants do not have to be related to a member of the Elks.
- Male and female students compete separately.
Students choose Redwood City Elks Lodge #1991 as their sponsoring Lodge.
Applications can be found online at enf.elks.org/MVS.
The application deadline this year is November 15th.
