Dewey Fire Company 1 Junior Firefighters
We would like to send a HUGE SHOUT OUT to our students who volunteer with the Dewey Fire Company as Jr. Firefighters! They go beyond the school day to volunteer their time to train to become firefighters and serve the community when there is a need. We are so proud of them and all they do in representing the best that SVHS has to offer!
Every Monday night, they perform 95% of the same training as 18+ and interior qualified firefighters for Drill. This includes: search and rescue, forcible entry, hoseline advancement, throwing ladders, establishing water supply, wildland firefighting training, terrain rescue, CPR and first aid.
They are also permitted to respond to calls once they have met the requirements and perform many of the activities above on a fire or rescue scene including: throwing ladders, establishing water supply, grabbing tools and placing them where needed, rehabilitation services for firefighters and civilians, flaking lines for fire attack, exterior salvage operations, and assisting in water emergency operations.
Junior firefighters also perform station duties including: sweeping apparatus bays, taking garbage out, cleaning the trucks, checking equipment, staffing the station, and property maintenance.
You will also see the Jr. Firefighters at the Spirit parade, assisting in Fire prevention activities in the community, helping with The Santa Run, attending Friday night home football games with apparatus, and assisting with community events in Hellertown. Thank you for all you do for the community!
Welcome Mr. Rody Gilkeson- Musical Director
I am so excited to begin working with the wonderful students at Saucon Valley High School and the Theatre Company. I have been directing since 1993 at The Pennsylvania Playhouse. Before that time, I worked throughout the Lehigh Valley as a stage actor. In my early days I was a lead singer for some very well known rock bands. I lived in Los Angeles for a number of years and was lucky enough to appear on a few television shows including “Matlock”, “Generations” and “Days of Our Lives”. Upon returning to the area, I then became the director of the Notre Dame High School Theatre Company. I was a teacher for 16 years and retired in 2016 but continued at ND as director for one more year. My wife and I produced The Notre Dame Summer Theatre and we had five successful years performing “Evita”, “My Fair Lady”, “Kiss Me Kate”, “Les Miserable” and “Jekyll and Hyde”. Currently I am the President of The Pennsylvania Playhouse in Bethlehem and have directed the current production of “A Gentleman’s Guide to Love and Murder”. I was also the casting director for three movies which were shot here in the valley, “Getting Grace”, “Lucky Louie” and “The Hail Mary”, which was filmed this past summer. I look forward to working with everyone and keeping the fine theater tradition at Saucon Valley High School alive and well.
