Academic Team Challenge for Dec. - Feb.
The focus for the months of Dec.-Feb. is similar to a 10x2 where the end goal was to 'build a trusting and empowering relationship' vs this new challenge the end goal is to 'set an intentional goal and have a trust adult that hyper focuses on it along side the student and help encourage, give tips, and support to continually push and meet that ACADEMIC goal.
The thought is that you go into the spreadsheet below and put your name next to a student. You then meet with that students teacher and complete the goal sheet as the adults so you know how to best coach and support the student on their biggest need.
THEN on a WEEKLY basis - meet with this specific student and talk to them about their big end goal and their progress monitor check-points that the student would want to continuously come show you their success or their defeats and find support and encouragement to keep going.
This is new.
So it may seem like a lot.
However I have done my best to explain here, provide guided worksheets, and I will again explain at the huddle and then in depth at the PowWow.
GO TEAM - I think this is going to be an exciting BIG new focus and I am truly anticipating a really GOOD OUTCOME to this type of work school-wide!
Below you will find:
- A google slides version (MUST MAKE A COPY FIRST) then you can edit and electronically use as needed
- A powerpoint version - this is editable just remember to SAVE OFTEN if you chose to use this electronically
- A PDF print and hand write version

Long Range Planning Survey for Staff, Parents and Community Members:
Dear MVR-III Staff,
The Meramec Valley Board of Education held a special meeting and hearing over the District’s Long-Range Planning on Thursday, January 18th. We value and are seeking parents, staff, and community input on the options for future planning. Please consider taking the Long-Range Planning Survey to help guide the District in future planning.
As we look to the future of our district, we are excited and determined to continue the tradition of wisely utilizing our resources to create innovative learning and working environments for our students and staff. It's our pledge to uphold this excellence while managing resources conservatively, especially in the face of stagnant state and federal funding. We appreciate the community’s support, the dedication of our families, and are grateful for your continued partnership in shaping a brighter future for our students.
Note: Participants will need to log into Google to take the survey. Paper copies of the survey are available upon request at all MVR-III schools and at the Administration Building on Tuesday, January 23, 2024 through Monday, January 29, 2024 at 4:30 p.m.
Thank you ,
MVR-III School District

PBL Scenarios I think a lot of you are passionate about: meteorologist
Today's exercise is sort of a spin-off of one I sent earlier this year, where students became meteorologists and tracked a hurricane. Well, hurricane season is over, and cold weather is sweeping across the country. So, in the same spirit, students in this exercise become meteorologists as a winter storm approaches, and when it hits. What information do they need to give the people, and is there a point when they might be causing needless anxiety instead of helpful tips? If you are interested in joining the PBL Project, please remember that it goes FAR beyond the "Weekly Warm-ups" and into standard-based content. Here's a link that walks through everything the resource can do for you: https://us-west-2.protection.sophos.com?d=pblproject.com&u=aHR0cHM6Ly9hcHAucGJscHJvamVjdC5jb20vcGFnZT9wYWdlaWQ9UEJMLVByb2plY3RfaW5mbw==&i=NjBlODlhMzVjYTJlMzkwZmVjYzk3MTQ0&t=R2ZHNnJXdWJKMHJiQjhUTzBkOW1oNzQ3WTQzd0QwcEtKdFNzOUxYbFE3Yz0=&h=ce6b01d1dc234f67b405607ca21914c7&s=AVNPUEhUT0NFTkNSWVBUSVbsmCBCOzAtvgN4_IxYNM_z6lu0Kgpa2bWtDmtIpoI4-3aS0UqCDMFvb15SsfhENs9zSTJUCOTsZmuCu-vcmqrW-4E3o58k1GmgjKfrmdrNwQ
or give SABOTAGE MATH a try!
"Sabotage: was the name of the game today! Student were split into two teams. We set the timer for 3 minutes, and assigned two problems per round. At the end of each round, the team with the lowest number of correct answers had to draw a "sabotage card" out of the jar for the next round.
Sabotages included things like having to work your problems while holding your
paper above your head, pacing, doing wall sits, or standing on one foot. The sabotage in the picture says "write the alphabet backwards before they can start working" or "write a 'rule' 12 times before you start", etc.
Lots of laughter, high engagement. It didn't even feel like math class today.!"
Actually, a parent reached out and messaged me with this link via Dojo - she said "I don't know if you saw this but I thought it looked like it represented something Truman tries to embody. It says classroom but I could even see it being a school project"
I cried. lol SHOCKER! but then thought wow - how true. The more and more I looked into the facebook page and the website - it is SO TRUMAN. and what an amazing thing to represent "us".
Links are below - maybe try it out as a class and get familiar with it - if it is something that is truly simple and someone wants to help take on the SCHOOL idea of it - I AM 1,000% supportive of it.
