Sebago Superintendent Update
August 24th, 2023
Welcome to the Start of the 2023-2024 School Year!
Welcome!
We look forward to greeting you to the opening of the school year at our Open House and BBQ on Monday, August 28 from 4 to 6 PM! After picking up your "ticket" from your child's teacher, please be sure to stop by the grills to say hello.
If my name is new to you, that's because I joined the School Department on July 1. I am looking forward to working with you and the school staff to ensure each student is "provided quality, creative educational experiences which will produce lifelong learners and productive members of our community" (Sebago School Department Mission Statement). We have several school goal areas (curriculum, assessment, instruction; safety and security; school to community communications; facility and operations; grade six committee, and school for ALL). Future newsletters will provide more detail and updates on these goals.
In the meantime, I hope families enjoyed the close of summer, and I look forward to being yet another Sebago Champion for Children.
Regards,
Steve Connolly

Welcome to Our New Special Education Director Del Peavey
I am pleased to welcome aboard Mr. Del Peavey, who will be serving our School Department in two roles: Special Education Director and Occupational Therapist. Del comes to these roles with a wealth of experience in the field and has a great reputation as a person who puts students first. Del shares the following bio sketch.
My name is Del Peavey and I live in Raymond with my wife, Beth Peavey, who is a school administrator in RSU #14. I have worked in the field of education for the last 29 years. Most of that time has been in public schools, but I actually started at a special purpose private school, The Spurwink School. Over time, I have had the good fortune to work with and learn from a diverse student population, initially as an Occupational Therapist, then Assistant Special Education Director and most recently Special Education Director. I have a BS from UNE and a Masters in Education from USM. I look forward to meeting and working with the Sebago staff, students and families.
Home - School Communication
While in many ways the school system operates like a well-oiled machine (pick up/drop offs during the school day, schedule of events, arrival and dismissal procedures, bus routes after the first week, specials), there will be times when families have questions or concerns about something school related. I urge families to contact the person most closely involved with the question or concern as soon as possible so that communication can be smooth and timely. I frequently use the term "closest to the flame" to describe my recommendation for families looking to reach out to the school or department, which means families most often start questions at the classroom level before moving to the Principal or me. This is because the teacher probably has the most knowledge, and likely, the question or concern can be resolved there.
That being said, I also want to assure families that we (John, Del, and I) are available to discuss any matters. We look forward to frequent interactions with you as we become part of the fabric of the community.
Adult Help at School Needed Immediately!
We are in need of someone for 7 hours per day/5 days per week and offer health and dental insurance, personal days, sick days, and course reimbursement. Please reach out to John or Del should you wish more information. We are in need of one Ed Tech (I, II, or III).
* Ed Tech I's must have a high school degree, GED, or HiSET.
* Ed Tech II's need two years of college (60 credits).
* Ed Tech III's must have a bachelors degree or 90 credits.
Our opening is in Special Education and involves classroom support. This is a great way to be involved in school and to be on the same schedule as your child(ren)!
Thank you.
