School Community Newsletter ~ 5/15/22
Hello, Parents and Guardians,
What a busy time of the year this is! This week will be our last 5-day week of student attendance and the temperatures look much cooler. Students will not be in attendance on the District 25 SIP Day/Spring Data Day on Friday, May 27th, or on Memorial Day on Monday, May 30th.
There are so many fun things about this time of the school year. Events for this week...
The LMC is hosting the TMS Book Fair. Tomorrow morning we'll start the day with a 6th grade SRO Assembly in the Large Gym and this will be our last day of Sheild Testing. Boys Volleyball Teams have a tournament at South after school tomorrow. Tuesday wear green and blue in honor of Neurofibromatosis Day (we have a 7th grader who is impacted by this). At the end of the day on Thursday, May 19th we'll host an All-School Parade to celebrate all of our Track and Field Athletes heading to the STATE MEET!
An attitude of gratitude...

May is National Mental Health Awareness Month
The Illinois State Board of Education (ISBE) is shining a light on some of the resources available to support mental health and well-being in schools.
To begin, ISBE’s Student Advisory Council is helping to increase awareness of mental health by breaking down key terminology in a series of videos. Understanding issues related to mental health and well-being is the first step to providing or finding the support that’s needed. Watch and share the videos to hear from Illinois students about issues that affect how they show up to school and their readiness to learn, including anxiety, substance abuse, trauma, stress, adverse childhood experiences or ACES, mental wellness, physical abuse, mental illness, and mental health.
The Area 5 SEL Hub is helping districts to implement and expand SEL programs by:
Supporting 33 schools in 16 districts participating in REACH to conduct a trauma assessment and develop a trauma-responsive action plan.
Hosting 113 workshops for more than 2,800 educators on timely, relevant topics on self-care, SEL strategies in the classroom, and more.
Organizing a summer retreat to provide time, space, expertise, and coaching to SEL teams in 16 districts to prepare district-specific SEL programming for the next school year.
