Thursday's Thoughts

In their Shoes

Stacey is working on a display for our students called "Walk a Mile in my Shoes." This is to encourage students to see the story from the character's perspective. For example, she will display the book "A Witch on a Motorcycle" alongside a witch's shoe. I started thinking about lesson planning and how it may look if we plan lessons from the student's perspective. What if we considered the following through a student's eyes when planning:

1. What do I expect to learn from this lesson and why should I care?

2. How do you (the teacher), and I know if I have learned it?

3. If I did not learn, help me find a way to succeed. Help me understand what to do next if I am not confident of what to do.

4. What if I know this already and am ready to take the next step? What are my next steps?

Strong planning will yield great results from our students. Know where your students are so that you can continue to grow them in the days to come. We have lots of work to do my friends, and I look forward to the hard work ahead. :-)

United Way

I have placed United Way forms in your boxes. Please consider donating to this cause. This organization helps our district with grants, backpacks, and family needs among other things throughout the year. The forms are due at the end of September. :-)

Homework Center

I need your help with our homework center. We will have our center open every Tuesday-Friday morning in the cafeteria. This is a time for students to work on reviews, rewinds, study for tests, complete reading logs, etc. with help from an adult. If you know specific students that would benefit from this, please make sure they are aware to go before coming to your rooms each day. I will make sure parents know about this in my weekly Thursday call and email to them.

Faculty Meeting

Please make sure you have made arrangements to attend our faculty meeting Tuesday at 3:15 in the library. We will be discussing SCReady data and other important things. :-)

Teacher and Staff Custom of the Week

Choose not to complain or gossip.

Colt Custom #3

Surprise others by performing random acts of kindness.

I have had a few parents comment on our new newsletters. Be sure you are sending them home every week. I am making a strong effort to make sure we are communicating with parents weekly. Please add to the newsletter that parents will receive a call and email from me every Thursday about the week and upcoming dates.
