Literacy in 2/3!
In reading, students are continuing to practice their five finger summaries to reinforce comprehension of their independent reading books. Literature circles continue to be a wonderful opportunity to deeply discuss characters, the choices they make, and the role of identity.
Math Groups
Gabby's math group is completing their addition table, discussing and exploring how to use facts (like doubles plus or minus one) to solve problems more efficiently. Increasing fact fluency is an ongoing goal for the year. Additionally, mathematicians solved a messy, multi-step problem this week as part of our movement into story problems! Ask your student to tell you about the cookie problem.
Ms. B-P's math group is continuing to focus on math strategies for multi-digit addition and subtraction. Our goal is to grow our math toolboxes with a variety of tools and strategies so we can choose the best one for each problem with a focus on efficiency, accuracy and being able to check for reasonableness of our answers. We are also practicing how to do careful, deliberate reading of math problems expressed in words by understanding the question(s) being asked, the important data given, and the units needed to express the solution.
