How Water Effects Our Lives
How We Use Water Today
Drinking Water
Using water for drinking has been the same over the past 2000 years, and I'm sure it will be the same way of use for the next 2000. The only thing about drinking water that has changed and probably will change over the years would be how we drink it.
For Cleaning
We also use water for cleaning. With sinks we clean our faces or hands, with tubs or showers, we clean our bodies or hair. The way we use water to clean ourselves have defiantly changed over the years. People in the past would use to just jump into the public lake and clean themselves. For future references, we keep coming up with new technology on ways to provide water for cleaning, so I predict that the way we use water to clean ourselves will change.
We also use water to clean other things than ourselves. Like dishes, cars, places in the house, and even our pets.
A Way of Transportation
Water has been used as a transportation over the past of hundreds of years. It's been used for transporting people, trades, and goods. Today, its still used to transport those same things, except instead of using a canoe or kayak like they used to, we use cargo ships or ferries. I think that water still be used for a transportation in the future using new technology things.
In The Past
The Gellatly Dock has been used in the past. Boats would come and passengers would wait on the dock to be transported to a new location. Today, it's used as a dock that you can jump off of and hang out with friends.
The S.S. Okanogan was one of the ships that would come to the Gellatly Dock to pick up passengers.
For Enterainment
People today still use canoes and kayaks for transportation, but also for entertainment. With water, there's so many water you can be entertained by it by doing fun activities. Such as tubing, swimming, scuba diving, or even wake boarding. In the past people used water as entertainment and I think people will still use water as entertainment in the future.
Can be a Home
Even though we don't use water as our home, there are tons of different animals that do. Water has always been a home to animals such as ducks, or dolphins, or even clams. The way we treat the water (or their home) has gotten worse. More garbage, pollution, and tonic waste has been spreading to bodies of water and effecting animals homes ( and even killing the animals). If this problem keeps growing, there won't be many animals in the sea.
It Keeps Plants Alive
Majority of the plants on Earth need water to survive, such as flowers, trees, or weeds. With out rain, most plants would die (except for cactus). Without most plants (like trees), we wouldn't be able to consume oxygen and some bugs wouldn't be able to survive. Since rain continues its patterns and the plants are adjusted to it, I don't think that we would loose plants anytime soon.
Can Create a Community
Lots of people enjoy living by water or even just being around it. When there's lots of people together and they socialize, it creates bonds and friendships. Which forms communities. For some strange reason, water has the power of bringing people together. I'm pretty sure it was like that in the past, and it will be like that in the future.
The West Kelowna Yacht Club has been around since 1962. Since then, many boats have gone by and many relationships have been formed.
