A Note from the Desk of Cody Burris
This time of year serves as a great reminder to count our blessings and give thanks. Here at BCS we have much to be thankful for! The Bible actually has a lot to say about being thankful, and that’s because it not only reflects a grateful heart but a contented spirit as well. Listen to how 1 Thessalonians 5:16-19 puts it:
16 Rejoice always, 17 pray without ceasing, 18 give thanks in all circumstances; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you. 19 Do not quench the Spirit.
Consider verses 18-19 with me for just a moment.
“give thanks in ALL circumstances, for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you.”
and “do not quench the Spirit.”
I think the two go hand in hand. In other words, you can quench the Spirit by NOT giving thanks in all circumstances.
Here is a good truth to remember: As a Christian, our thankfulness should not be determined by our circumstances.
It shouldn’t matter if we are going through a rough patch in life…that doesn’t give us an excuse to NOT BE THANKFUL. Paul echoed this sentiment in his letter to the church in Philippi when he said this is chapter 4:
“…for I have learned in whatever situation I am to be content. 12 I know how to be brought low, and I know how to abound. In any and every circumstance, I have learned the secret of facing plenty and hunger, abundance and need. 13 I can do all things through him who strengthens me.”
Contentment and thankfulness go hand in hand.
Just a few verses early Paul, while in prison mind you, wrote about rejoicing in all circumstances…and being thankful…listen to Philippians 4:4-7:
4 Rejoice in the Lord always; again I will say, rejoice. 5 Let your reasonableness [d] be known to everyone. The Lord is at hand; 6 do not be anxious about anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God. 7 And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.
Thankfulness is what should be on our lips rather than anxiety. That’s not to say stressful times won’t come our way, because we all know that they will. But rather than respond to those moments speaking of our troubles from a standpoint of worry and concern, we are to rejoice and be thankful when we speak to others and the Lord.
Take time today to count your blessings and give thanks to the LORD, for He is good and worthy of our praise!

Ways to Serve
The holidays are quickly approaching and we have so much in store for our staff and students here at BCS. Please see below the events that PTF is hosting in the upcoming weeks. We understand that there is a lot going on in just a short amount of time, however we also know our families and we know that if we can all come together, we can make it the best holiday season for both our students and staff at BCS.
Christmas Luncheon for the BCS Staff
Wednesday December 13
We ask that you signup to supply food or volunteer to serve staff and students. Show off your best pasta recipe, whip up your favorite dessert, or join your student and their classmates and watch over the lunchroom while our staff enjoy a quiet and peaceful lunch. Help us show our appreciation to the wonderful staff of BCS.
Lil Shoppers Holiday Store
The week of December 5-8
The Little Shoppers Holiday Store offers students the opportunity to purchase gifts for their families. The shop will be set up in the Assembly Room before school, after school and during lunch hours. Volunteers will help the students shop and help decorate the store and hallways.
It is our hope that through this program the students will learn about handling money and receiving the joy of being able to select a special gift for a loved one.
Tales from the Manger
Friday December 15
We are switching up our previously known Polar Express Day to Tales from the Manger. Our Pk3-5th grade students will have an exciting day of different sessions around the school that give them an insight of the very first Christmas. We will have a petting zoo bus, hay rides, crafts, games, hot cocoa and more.
For our secondary students we are asking for donations in donuts, little Debbie’s and chocolate milk as a sweet treat for our students while testing this day.
Family Christmas Chapel
Tuesday December 12
BCS will be hosting a Family Christmas Chapel on Wednesday December 12 at Willow Drive Baptist with our 2nd grade Christmas Program directly following. PTF is providing cookies and hot cocoa and we need help assisting at the table.

Eagle Eyes Watch Program
Our school recognizes the importance of maintaining a safe and secure environment for everyone, and this year we have an opportunity for volunteers to dedicate their time to join our team as an Eagle Eye Watch Member. Eagle Eyes is a volunteer-based group at Brazosport Christian School tasked with providing a physical, armed security presence aimed at deterring criminal activity on campus. By joining this program, you will not only help create a safer environment, but also foster a sense of unity and responsibility within our school. Volunteers will need to be ready to perform consistent patrols of the campus perimeter, report criminal activity, attempt to de-escalate a threat verbally (when possible), and engage a threat with necessary force if needed. If you are interested in volunteering as a part of the Eagle Eyes Watch Program or have any questions, please contact security@1bcs.org or use the link below.
