The Epi Owl 'Hoot'
A quick look at what we've been doing this half term!
A note from Mrs Thorp
What a busy start to the year it has been so far, we have had Romans, Greeks and Vikings appearing around school and the school corridors have blossomed in to a showcase of work based on our school novel for this term, “The Secret Garden”. We have had trips to the zoo, the airport and the Akrotiri Environmental Centre, all of which have greatly enhanced the children’s learning experiences this term. I can’t wait to see how this develops further in the next half term.
The school council representatives for Key Stage Two have asked me if they can bring some warmer food, such as soup, in for brunch. I have agreed that they can do this as long as they have a proper flask and that the contents is not piping hot. Hopefully the warmer weather will reappear soon and soup will no longer be so attractive, but in the meantime I am happy for them to bring this in should they wish.
Can I please send a reminder that all children should be bringing a water bottle to school. They can fill and refill these from the water fountains at school, but they must bring in their own bottle.
This week is parent/teacher meeting week for years 1-6, and I hope to see as many of you there as possible. This is a really important opportunity for you to discuss your child’s progress and to ask any questions that you may have about their learning in the classroom. I will also be available should you wish to discuss any concerns directly with me.

FS1 learn from a vet!
Radha pays us a visit in Bunnies!
'Radha Resilience' came to visit us. We had to use all our 'Radha' skills to help her with her winter coat. We put on dressing up clothes, we didn't give up and we kept going! Thank you Radha for helping us with our learning behaviours.
Learning about famous artists
In Caterpillars we have been improving our mark-making by learning about famous artists. We looked at painting by Claude Monet and then used our fingers to create our own Water Lilies Paintings.
FS2 visit Akrotiri airport
Although we didn't actually get to go on a holiday from Akrotiri, we did go through check-in, got our bags scanned and saw the clever vehicles and machinery. There were some special guest appearances from Molly the sniffer dog and the Big Bad Wolf! He tried to run past airport security, luckily he was arrested and is now being held in prison! What a morning!
FS2 visit the main school site
FS2 have had a fantastic time visiting the main site every Monday morning. We had the opportunity to develop our computing skills and enhance our coordination, balance and jumping skills using the gymnastic equipment.
FS2 Super gym skills!
KS1 & KS2 News
Badgers love Forest Schools
The Badgers have been exploring the Forest Schools' area in Happy Valley. They have been creating some unique and lovely weaving collages by searching for natural objects to weave with. Some children even designed their own Forest School as part of their collage. Creative thinking!
Y3MM create amazing bodies
In science we are learning about Amazing Bodies. We had to draw our own imaginary animal and then used tracing paper on top to draw the animal’s skeleton. Our challenge was to label the different bones that we have learnt. We also had to create a name for our creature.
Dance like a Roman
Y4RR/GM have worked so hard creating Roman dance routines this half-term. They have produced pieces based on the Roman invasions and the Colosseum. From strong shield walls to hypogeum happenings, they have worked incredibly hard to produce strong, dynamic routines. Wonderful to see great teamwork and imagination in action.
When is sand not really sand?
Did you know that sand isn’t really sand? Well we do! Y2 went to the Environmental Centre and looked at lots of different features at the seaside. We collected samples of sand and studied them through a microscope. We were amazed to see not only tiny bits of rock but also shells and bits of plastic too!! Oh no!!
#lovewriting #yesreally
No matter the inspiration, Year 6 love to write. Take a dash of Frances Hodgson Burnett, mix in a cupful of Neil Gaiman and what do you get? Some beautiful lyrical poetry! See it on display in the classrooms, as well as along the main corridor. Likewise, be inspired by a short film titled, FRANCIS. #spine-chillingmystery #wonderfulimaginations
Super weaving with Foxes
We loved practising our weaving skills to make beautiful artwork. We searched the Forest School area in Happy Valley to find the best natural objects to weave with.
Baptism experience in Y4
Father John explained all about Baptism to the children in Y4KW when we visited All Saint’s Church in January. The children had many interesting questions to ask Father John. Actually seeing the font and the other artefacts linked to Baptism brought learning to life.
Victory in the netball
Episkopi Primary School were victorious in the Y5/6 netball tournament. A number of Y5 children played a prominent part and smashed the competition from Akrotiri, Dhekelia and Ay Nik. Episkopi teams came back with trophies, both for Premier League and the Super League. Isla said “I really enjoyed it because we worked well as a team!” We have all been playing netball in our PE lessons, so it was good to put this into practise.
Up periscopes!
We had a great time learning how light travels in science. We then created periscopes, using a set of instructions in order to test what we had learned!

Penpals!
We have Penpals in Norwich, England. Our class had to write to them and tell them all about ourselves. We find out about their families, their hobbies and how old they are. We really enjoy writing to them and receiving their responses. It’s great having Penpals!
