Monday, December 14- Friday, December 18: B Media Week
Thursday, December 24- Friday, January 1: Schools Closed for Winter Break
Learning Model Intent Form
On Friday, Frederick County Public Schools asked families to complete intent forms as it transitions from a virtual learning model to a hybrid learning model for students in grades PreK-12 at the start of the second semester on January 28, 2021.
Families are asked to complete one intent form per child enrolled in FCPS. The intent form can be accessed here: https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/HybridOpenParentIntentDec20.
Today, we are providing guidance for what schedules will look like in the hybrid model.
Students will be assigned to Cohort A or B. In Cohort A, students will attend school in-person on Mondays and Tuesdays. In Cohort B, students will attend school in person on Thursdays and Fridays. Wednesdays will be virtual synchronous days similar to the schedule that students have followed during the first semester. When students are not attending school in-person, they will take part in virtual learning. Students who are learning virtually will follow the same schedule as students attending school in person. Many of the classes will be taught with students attending in person participating with students taking part virtually via Google Meet. Some classes will be purely students taking part virtually.
Regardless of the final timeline for a shift to a hybrid model, the schedules shared here will be our new schedules for our second semester in FCPS. This will allow us great flexibility as we adjust which students are receiving in-person instruction.
The schedules were designed with consideration to the required synchronous or in-person hours required by our state department for each student, regardless of instructional model, as well as the feedback we've received from stakeholders regarding our current schedule. All three levels will operate with a 5-hour day. After in-person students are dismissed, teachers will meet with small groups of students virtually and check with students not present in school that day. Students will have a minimum of 3.5 hours of synchronous instruction on Wednesday and any other days they are not attending in person.

Specials Reminder
Each student has one live art class, one live music class, and one live P.E. class per week. In addition to that, students will be expected to complete one "On-Demand" activity per specials class per week. There is time in each student's day on Wednesday to complete this On-Demand work during the same time block as their live specials classes the rest of the week, but the assignments will be due at the end of the week to allow for some flexibility.
The On-Demand activities are being sent out as a menu of choices. Students need to complete one art choice, one music choice, and one P.E. choice. These activities are designed to take about 10 minutes each in Kindergarten-2nd grade and 15 minutes each in 3rd-5th grade. The menu can be accessed through Schoology by navigating to your student's art, music, or P.E. page (the same menu is in each of the three locations). The menu has the directions for each choice as well as any needed links. Often something needs to be submitted back to Schoology after it is finished.

Inclement Weather
In the event of inclement weather, students will continue to engage in virtual instruction using the schedule that is currently in effect -- the schedule for all virtual or the schedule for the hybrid model.
An announcement cancelling small group instruction will be made by 5 a.m. on inclement weather days, and those students will also participate in virtual learning for the day.
If the weather event is significant enough to warrant closing FCPS offices, then an announcement will be made that the entire system is closed and NO virtual instruction will occur. This will be considered a "snow day" and the day will be made up as outlined in the FCPS Calendar Handbook.
For more information, please refer to FCPS Regulation 400-02: Closing of School due to Weather, Maintenance or Other Reasons.
Coronavirus Dashboard
FCPS has added a link on the school system's web homepage to the Maryland Department of Health's Coronavirus Dashboard. The dashboard features a Schools Data tab that serves as a resource for anyone who wants information about COVID outbreaks in school buildings.
Schools are listed as having an outbreak when the following occur:
*At least two confirmed COVID-19 cases among students/teachers/staff within a 14-day period, epidemiologically linked outside of household contacts; or
*Three or more classrooms or cohorts with cases from separate households that meet the classroom/cohort outbreak definition, occurring within 14 days; or
*Five percent or more unrelated students/teachers/staff with confirmed COVID-19 within a 14-day period (minimum of 10 unrelated students/teachers/staff).
FCPS also continues to link to the dashboard at www.fcps.org/update.
