Revolutionary Days and Wax Mueum
The fifth grade has been selected to participate in Revolutionary Days at Kirk of the Hills, on January 29, 2015. Each student is required to dress in period dress for this event. I am attaching some ideas to come up with a costume. Please do not feel as if you have to spend a lot of money. There are numerous ways to do this for very little money.
In addition, we will be doing a Wax Museum the following day, at school. The students can wear the same costume again.
Please let me know if you have any questions. There will be more details about the field trip very soon. There will not be any parent volunteers need for this trip, but I will need some help on Friday with the Wax Museum.
Thank you for your support,
Jenna Buell
Costume Information:
For boys:
-Tube socks, soccer socks, knee high socks of solid color
-Sweatpants or baseball pants that can be pushed up just below the knee. (or they can roll up the hems to just below the knee and tie close to the calf with a safety pin which looks very nice as long as you get the safety pin in there J). No jeans.
-long sleeve button up (can be colored or striped, etc)
-vest from a suit (women’s vests from goodwill are good or women’s sleeveless collarless shirt,).
- scarves to tie around their neck so it looks like a cravat (the fancy ruffle at the top of the shirt). See girls modesty piece for material options.
-tricorn hat (dollar store) or skull cap.
For girls
-Colonial/Revolutionary era dress (suggest you send out an email to see if anyone has one or more to borrow)
-Floor length full skirts, solid or floral print, period appropriate (Can be purchased from goodwill that run $5 each, they have a 25% sale on Friday.)
-white or cream apron (Can be made out a dust ruffle from a bed, or a dishcloth can make a pinner apron).
-mob cap, can be made easily.
-flat broad brimmed straw hat Michael's has them in the basket/floral area and you can use the 40% coupon)
-Wear ¾ or long sleeve solid color cotton shirts (scoop, round or v neck)
- modesty piece: they can wrap a scarf (cloth) around neck and tuck in at top. It looks very authentic. Can use cut sheer or lace curtains.
