Fall Communication Newsletter: October/November 2020

2020-2021 School Year

As we all returned to school this Fall, we know that you and your children continue to work hard in this virtual/remote instruction. Adjusting to the "new normal" has been more challenging to some of you than to others. We want you to know that we are proud of you and your efforts. Keep working hard and being persistent, because this too shall pass. We also want to remind you that regardless of the mode of instruction that you and your child have selected, our counselors and social workers are fully committed to serve you in any capacity that we can.

The content of our Newsletter will include resources, links, ideas, lessons, highlights, announcements and many other things that we feel might be helpful for parents and students.

Our Commitment to Social Emotional Learning

What is Social Emotional Learning or SEL?

Social Emotional Learning is an integral part of education and human development. SEL is the process through which all young people and adults acquire and apply the knowledge, skills, and attitudes to develop healthy identities, manage emotions and achieve personal and collective goals, feel and show empathy for others, establish and maintain supportive relationships, and make responsible and caring decisions.

Supporting Our Students at ALL Levels

Big picture
Our Elementary Counselors have been using Quaver SEL when providing their Guidance Lessons to your student. This program focuses on building our student's Self Awareness, Self Management, Social Awareness to allow them have strong Relationship Skills and make Responsible Decision Making. The program's lessons are fun, age appropriate and uses music to deliver these important messages.

Student SEL Surveys

We are also excited to have Panorama Education as part of our student's support system at all levels. Panorama Ed. will be used at the elementary, middle school and high school level. This program will allow us to measure and better understand our student's social emotional learning. Using a multi tiered system support approach, our school staff will be able to focus on our student's strengths and needs.

You should have received an "Opt Out" Letter for your son/daughter to participate in Panorama's SEL Survey and we hope that you will "opt in" to have your student participate in the survey. These surveys will give us important information about our students so that our staff can better support them.
