Important Safety Info
We held our monthly lockdown drill in conjunction with the Sheriff's Office Thursday morning. They were very positive and shared that it was apparent our staff and students knew what to do in a lockdown and were impressed at how quiet students were! They really were impressed that when they entered Ms. Johnson's room, they really did not think anyone was in there. Good response!!!
However, we did have a safety concern on Wednesday that I need everyone to learn from. An unauthorized visitor entered through the patio doors during lunch. This male was wearing sunglasses and a hat and when asked right away to remove, our staff member noticed this was not a Clark student and security escorted him from the building. Here is what is VERY important from that situation:
- The reason we do not allow hoodies up, hats, and sunglasses on in the building is because it is absolutely a safety issue to not be able to see faces in person and on the cameras.
- This person entered the locked door because he followed a student through. This is again why we do not want anyone to open any doors for anyone. We also want everyone to be more aware of their surroundings. Know your classmates and staff and if you see ANYONE in the building, on the patios, etc. who you do not recognize, alert a staff member immediately.
Safety is a priority and we count on all of you to be our eyes and ears and understand why certain rules exist. Any questions about our rules or safety guidelines, do not hesitate to speak to Dr. Share or me.
Dr. Judd
Announcements and Updates
Martin County Schools will be closed on Monday, September 26th, but Clark and IRSC are open. There will be no transportation, so please arrange for a ride to school. Also, Clark will provide a pizza lunch, but you must bring cash to purchase. Free & reduced lunches will be honored. email sdecker@irsc.edu before 9 am Monday if you did not sign up at the cafe this week.
Uh oh- looks like something is brewing with the weather! Remember, Clark and IRSC do not necessarily close when MCSD does. You will receive an email and a call/text if a decision to close is made. It will also be posted on our website.
Seems obvious, but bathrooms are used for going number 1 and number 2 and washing your hands. Not sure why they have become places to hang out with friends, but this is not ok. Several students have received warnings and progressive discipline steps will begin. Students should be limiting time out of class to use the restroom as you have 5 minutes between classes and it is a very small school. If there are medical issues necessitating frequent bathroom use, the teachers know and will allow you to go.

Handbook Highlight- Open College Campus (p. 17-18)
There have been concerns lately from employees in other buildings that Clark students have been too loud and have not been using common manners and respect by pushing in chairs, cleaning up after using items, and returning spaces to their original condition. It is a privilege to be able to leave the Clark building during off blocks and this will be revoked if students do not adhere to the warnings given.
Campus is defined as the Chastain campus, which is composed of buildings A, B, C, D, and the Morgade Library. Clark (building D) is located on an open college campus. Students’ individualized schedules may have:
- Off blocks during the school day.
- Classes scheduled in the morning, afternoon and/or evening.
- Classes located at the Chastain and/or other campuses.
Students are subject to the Clark Student Code of Conduct as well as the Indian River State College policies and procedures.

Every day is a celebration!
Make a Difference Mondays! Kathi Ramos made a difference for our staff members last week by bringing in coffee & munchkins. Thanks, Kathi. The faculty & staff were grateful for the pick-me-up.
Take Care Tuesdays! Spend five minutes thinking about what you can take off your brain’s plate today, or even this week. Can you postpone thinking about a decision on school plans for a few days? Can you hold off on mentally planning this weekend until tomorrow? The more you can lighten your mental load, the more freedom you will feel to be present in the here and now without extra thoughts weighing you down.
Way to Go Wednesdays! Shout out to Anthony Prezioso for being very kind and helping Dr. Judd when her hands were full the other day. Small acts mean a lot!
Thankful Thursdays! We are grateful there are so many students ready to step in & help. The fall decorating team of Katie Hale & Katie Hernandez, and Matt Mahoney & Anthony Prezioso who stepped in at front desk to cover while the staff was in a meeting. It’s great to have students to rely on.
Fun Fact Fridays! In honor of Hispanic Heritage Month, here is a fun fact you may not know. The observation started in 1968 as Hispanic Heritage Week under President Lyndon Johnson. It was later expanded by President Ronald Reagan in 1988 to cover a 30-day period which is now known as Hispanic Heritage Month!
