Grant C. Madill Update
Ogdensburg City School District
A Note From Mrs. DiSalvo
Greetings Madill Families!
I write this update with many mixed emotions following the announcement of our closure for the rest of the year. However, I am choosing to concentrate on the positive and all that we are doing, together. Our families have been such an awesome support of all that we are doing at Madill throughout this closure. We all thank you for that. Our teachers have been working diligently since May 13th to figure out the best way to teach virtually. Our cafeteria and custodial staff have worked tirelessly to keep our children fed and our school safe. Mr. Kendall and Mrs. Kelly continue to keep all of us informed every step of the way and give us their utmost support. So for all of that, I am proud and thankful to be a part of this school community.
I want to assure you that our teachers are not done yet...we still have many weeks left before we close out our school year. Please continue to support your children in the at-home learning and reach out if we can assist in any way.
We will continue to communicate information to you as we receive it. There is a daily announcement on the Madill Elementary School/PTO Facebook page. Links to the announcements and District memos will also be available on the Madill page at: http://ogdensburgk12.org/Domain/10.
Stay Safe and Healthy,
Amy DiSalvo
Update on Lunch
Out of an abundance of caution, and to afford our students a more diverse food selection, the district will be serving breakfast and lunch on Mondays and Wednesdays.
Meals will continue to be picked up from 11 a.m. to 12 p.m. at both John F. Kennedy Elementary School and Dr. Grant C. Madill Elementary School.
The schedule for meal distribution is detailed below:
Monday – Students will receive lunch for Monday and Tuesday, as well as breakfast for Tuesday and Wednesday.
Wednesday – Students will receive lunch for Wednesday, Thursday and Friday, as well as breakfast for Thursday and Friday.
There will be additional food options, other than sandwiches, provided to our students. Some of these meals, like frozen pizza, chicken nuggets, and popcorn chicken will require adult preparation/cooking.
Meals can be picked up by driving into the main entrance circle at either building. Once you arrive, please notify the staff member of the number of meals you are requesting. The staff member will place the desired number of meals on the table. Please exit your car and grab each meal.
If you have any questions, please email Mr. Brian Mitchell at bmitchell@ogdensburgk12.org.
District Office News
From Mrs. Kelly:
Grading Guidelines: After listening to the thoughts and concerns of students, parents, and teachers, as well as educational professionals, we have determined the following simplified grading measures moving forward.
For marking period three, students will receive a numerical grade that is reflective of the grade each student had as of March 13th, which was the last day of classes. Work or back assignments completed by students during the time of at-home learning may be considered to raise a numerical grade.
Marking period three will end on Wednesday, April 29, 2020 and report cards will be sent home from the district office by May 8, 2020. As we receive more information from the New York State Department of Education and Governor Cuomo’s office regarding the school closure order, we will share grading guidelines for the fourth marking period.

Wheel of Feelings
Hi there! We hope that everyone is staying healthy, mind and body, and want you to know how much we miss you! We want to challenge you to do your best to stay positive and have fun each day. It is good for your mind to focus on what is good and happy! Here is a little game you can play to help you figure out how you are feeling. You can use it as often as you want!
Here is how to play:
Play this like a game- there are 3 levels (3 circles). The inner circle is level one- this includes the feeling words: Happy, Sad, Disgusted, Angry, Fearful, Bad, and Surprised. Pick one of those that you are feeling and if you feel more than one, that is okay too. Just focus on one feeling at a time.
After choosing from the level one feeling words, stay in that color category (for example, if you picked Happy, then you would stay in the yellow category when using the level 2 and 3 circles). Next, choose a feeling word in the second level feelings (in the same color category). Once you choose that word, you will only have two words in level three to choose from based off of your level two word.
Example: Level 1= Happy, Level 2= Peaceful, Level 3= Thankful
Make sure you don't skip a level! There are 130 feeling words on this wheel so use the level up process to help you narrow down what you're feeling.
Kindergarten Registration
Kindergarten Screening, originally scheduled for May 12 & 13, has been postponed due to the extended school closure. We will schedule a new date during the summer months, with details to be shared as soon as we can safely return to our school buildings. If you have a child who will be five years old on or before December 1, 2020, please email Mrs. Brenno at sbrenno@ogdensburgk12.org to be included on our Kindergarten Screening list. Please provide your child's name, your name, and a phone number at which you can be reached to schedule a screening. Mrs. Brenno will respond to confirm your email has been received.
Universal Pre-Kindergarten Application
Positivity Project
Our Positivity Traits during May will include: Purpose & Connection, Leadership, and continue with Other People Matter Mindset. Practicing these traits couldn't be more important now than ever. We will talk about these each week in the morning announcements.
