Photosynthesis

Introduction

What exactly is photosynthesis and why is it so important? Photosynthesis is an important thing in the world. If there wasn't any photosynthesis, we wouldn't be here right now. Photosynthesis is the stuff that plants need in order to make oxygen.

What is photosynthesis

Photosynthesis is the process by which light energy is converted into chemical energy. It occurs in the chloroplasts. The stacked discs that absorb light are called thylakoids. Two reactions for photosynthesis are light dependent reactions, and light independent reactions which is the Calvin Cycle. Energy from the sun breaks water into hydrogen, oxygen and electrons. What happens to the absorption? Chlorophyll and carotenoids absorb light. Water is split into hydrogen and oxygen. What happens to the ETC? The movement of hydrogen across the thylakoids makes energy for the ATP, NADPH. What happens to the Calvin Cycle? In the stroma using electrons carbon enters as carbon dioxide and leaves as sugar.
