Science Olympiad

Volunteer to be a parent science or engineering coach!

Be a part of a fabulous learning experience with your child!

The learning that happens during Science Olympiad lasts a lifetime! Students in grades 5 & 6 work together to become experts in their chosen events. These memories keep students coming back for more science and engineering events every year! The experience continues into Middle School, High School and beyond.

Join the CDM Science and Engineering community!

Meet other families who share the passion for science, technology and engineering. Weekly meetings happen every week from September until the event on February 6, 2016. Each meeting takes place in a family's home, at CDM or in a public space where students can practice, build, think and create their projects or prepare for their event together as a team.

Frequently Asked Questions

How many students are on our team? CDM will bring two teams of 15 students to the event. Each event has two students per team, allowing for 4 students to participate in an event.

Who coaches these events? Parents run Science Olympiad! It is all volunteer based. Event coaches at Science Olympiad are also volunteers. Everyone volunteers their time because they believe it is important to encourage young people to get involved in positive learning experiences in science, engineering and technology.

What if I do not know anything about the topic? That is okay! It helps to be able to read the information and prepare lessons for the students, but the students are the ones who need to become experts.

I do not have time to coach, but would like to help out! GREAT! We need volunteers to help do other jobs such as order T-shirts, volunteer at the event and bring food, snacks, shelter and other items on February 6th.

When and where are the meetings each week? Parent coaches pick a day that works best for them.
