Parents as Partners
Cedar Grove Elementary School 2017-2018
In order to build strong learners and increase student achievement, it is critical that we work together to grow your child as a learner. Here are some tips for you as you work at home with your child each night.
- Establish a set routine: When your child arrives home from school, allow them time to wind down by eating a snack and having some time to wind down from the school day by playing outside, watching tv, reading, and/or resting. After a predetermined wind down time, ensure that your child begins homework.
- Check homework folders daily: Even if your child tells you that they have no homework, see for yourself. A CGE Weekly Newsletter will come home every week. On this newsletter, you will see homework and what is going on in your child's class listed. All students have reading logs to complete nightly. Make sure you sign your child's reading log.
- Read to your child and/or listen to your child read nightly: A great way to end the day and have some parent/child bonding time is to read for 20 minutes before bed. Share a story together!
- Stay in contact with your child's teacher: Email the teacher, call the school, or text if applicable just to check in on your child. Communication is critical!
Volunteer Your Time
We are always in need of parents to volunteer their time to read to children or listen to children read. If you are able to volunteer, please let me know. We need you!
