Feathers Up Monthly Newsletter
October 2023
News from Mr. Culbreth
Warrior Family,
We have many exciting events coming up in the month of October. First and foremost, I want to invite you to our Cards, Candy, and Community Night on October 26th from 5:00-7:00 p.m. It will be a night to learn more about the resources we have available, how to help your child and hear our amazing band perform. You will find more information below and I look forward to seeing you there.
We have been blessed to have a terrific partnership with local businesses and community members already this year. The old adage that "it takes a village to raise a child" is absolutely true. Through our partnerships, we have had multiple donations and services provided for our students. I want to give a HUGE shout out to Home Depot and Communities in Schools for the donation and efforts put into our Giving Garden renovation. If you or anyone you know would be interested in partnering with our school, please see the information regarding the Warrior Nation Community Partnership meeting information below.
There are a few other dates to remember as we go into October. Please remember there will be no school from October 9th-13th for Fall Break. Our Color Battle fundraiser will conclude on October 6th. Fall Picture Day is October 27th. The Communities in Schools Duck Derby is October 1st at Jack Mattox Complex in Ringgold.
As always, I want to encourage you to communicate with the school any time you have questions or concerns. We know that student success increases when there is a strong relationship between the school and the home. Please do not hesitate to email me at mculbreth@catoosa.k12.ga.us when you have questions and/or concerns.

Thank you for your support of Lakeview Middle School and the investments you make in your children’s lives. We’re so excited to introduce you to this semester’s only major fundraiser, Lakeview Middle School Color Battle! A group of student leaders at our school have worked very hard to organize the Color Battle fundraiser and are pumped to be able to host this event on October 6th.
We kick off our Color Battle fundraiser next week with a fun-packed Pep Rally and each student will receive an Access Code and Pledge Sheet to enter and track donations online. Students are challenged to get donations over the next 2 weeks from family and friends to help our school. Funds raised this year will be used to purchase PBIS Rewards and Activities.
Students must raise at least $30 to participate in the battle on the football field.

MATH CAN BE HARD
Many parents requested information to help with math. I wanted to share a video that sums up math for parents. I included several links that you might find helpful to allow you to help your child with math. Reminder: Please have your student work on i-Ready math for at least 30 minutes a day at home.

Nurse notes
Being back together in classrooms brings up the possibility of contracting whatever illness is going around. Keep in mind though, that just because you're around someone who is sick, doesn't mean you will get sick also.
So what are we seeing in the clinic??? We have had a few cases of Covid, strep throat, a stomach virus, as well as our basic common cold, and seasonal allergies going around here at school. There are many over-the-counter products you can use at home to treat minor symptoms, such as sore throat and runny/stuffy nose. If your child is experiencing these symptoms for extended periods of time, it may be time to have them checked by a healthcare provider.
Speaking of Covid, there are no longer required quarantines or isolations if exposed or positive; it is treated the same way as any other illness. You must be fever-free > 24 hours (without using any fever-reducing medications) before returning to school.
Please remember that if your child is absent, you can either provide a parent note or one you obtain from a healthcare provider.
Many childhood illnesses, especially respiratory or gastrointestinal, CAN BE PREVENTED by HANDWASHING, KEEPING HANDS OFF THE FACE, COVERING COUGHS/SNEEZES, AND NOT GETTING TOO CLOSE TO OTHERS.
As always, please contact me if you have any questions or concerns.
