Tiger Tales
Family Edition
Dear WES Family,
Happy New Year! As we step into a brand new year, we want to express our gratitude for your continued partnership in your child's education journey. The start of the year is a wonderful time for reflection, goal-setting, and renewed commitment to our shared mission: providing the best possible educational experience for your child.
The Alabama State Department of Education recently released School Report Cards for 2023. WES decreased by 7 points from 2022. Our decrease is mostly contributed to attendance. When our students are not present it counts against our daily attendance report. We are strongly encouraging you to send students to school on a regular basis. Any student that has 17 or more absences for the year is considered "chronically absent". Those students have a negative impact on our overall state report card. We will be more actively monitoring attendance, sending reminders and consulting with our attendance officer to help deter chronic absenteeism. Please help us in our efforts. Plan appointments after school and send students to school if they are not sick or contagious.
Here are some thoughts and aspirations we would like to share with you for the new year:
A Year of Collaboration: Let's continue working hand in hand to create an environment where every child can thrive. Your insights, support, and active involvement make a significant difference in our school community.
Fostering a Love for Learning: Together, let's inspire and nurture a genuine love for learning in our students. Whether it's through reading, hands-on activities, or creative projects, we aim to make every lesson a stepping stone to curiosity and knowledge.
Communication is Key: Effective communication is vital. We encourage you to stay connected with teachers, attend parent-teacher conferences, and reach out whenever you have questions or concerns. Our doors are always open.
Setting Goals for Success: As we enter the new year, consider sitting down with your child to set achievable goals. These goals can encompass academic achievements, personal growth, or even acts of kindness. We believe in celebrating each milestone, big or small.
A Positive and Supportive Community: Let's continue to foster a positive and supportive community where every child feels valued and encouraged to be their authentic selves. In this environment, they can confidently explore, learn, and develop their unique talents.
Embracing Challenges as Opportunities: Challenges are part of the learning process. Together, let's encourage resilience, perseverance, and a growth mindset in our students. Each challenge is an opportunity for growth and development.
Improve Daily Attendance: Regular attendance allows your child to benefit from continuous learning experiences. Each day in the classroom builds upon the last, ensuring a steady progression in their understanding of key concepts.
Wellness Matters: Your child's well-being is of utmost importance to us. We encourage you to prioritize a healthy balance between academics, extracurricular activities, and downtime. Ensuring your child gets enough sleep, engages in physical activity, and maintains a balanced diet contributes to their overall success.
Looking Forward to School Events: We're excited about the upcoming school events, performances, and activities planned for the year. Your participation adds to the vibrancy of these occasions, creating lasting memories for both you and your child.
Open Doors and Open Hearts: Our school thrives when there is open communication and collaboration between home and school. Your ideas, feedback, and involvement make our community stronger. Let's continue this journey with open hearts and open minds.
Thank you for entrusting us with the education and growth of your child. We are eager to make 2024 a year filled with inspiration, achievement, and joy. Here's to a fantastic year of learning and discovery!
Warm regards,
Mrs. Lewis, Principal
