VIRTUAL BACK TO SCHOOL NIGHT -THANK YOU!
I just wanted to send a thank you for coming together and pulling off a successful Virtual Back to School Night! We have to give our new CTE teacher, Jennifer Carreno, a major shoutout for sending the idea to Nelson last month!
Here were some messages sent from parents and people in the community:
- āJust wanted to tell you we really enjoyed Back to School Night! The Bitmojis were so cute! We are very impressed with the WHS staff!ā
- āThank you for hosting a Virtual Back to School Night. We loved not feeling rushed and running around campus, trying to find six classrooms. I was also able to research future classes that my son will be taking. Kudos to your staff!ā
- āWalnut High School raises the bar again with a Bitmoji Back to School Night. So clever! All the teachers and staff did an amazing job. Well done!ā
- āPlease let your staff know that their presentations were very informative and helped ease some of my fears I had with Distance Learning. My daughter is blessed to have so many caring teachers.ā
For the people on campus, we hope you enjoyed some Kona Ice! Thank you Conchita for a great idea!

10 Ways Professional Learning Can Model the Practices that Engage and Empower Learners in Distance Learning

Although there are great tech tools and many programs that at first glance can seem to minimize complexity when everything continues to shift, we have to remember as we plan for the fall and beyond that there is no substitute for a teacher. Now more than ever we need teachers who can connect with students, guide them on their path and codesign authentic, participatory, and relevant learning experiences based on their needs, strengths, and questions.
