Madrona February Newsletter
February 1st, 2024
Hello Madrona Community,
In honor of Black History Month, we will participate in the Black Lives Matter week of Action during the 2nd week of February. This year's BLM theme will focus on Collective Value which is one of the BLM 13 principals. It means "None of us are free until we are all free." During this week, we will use the lesson plans and resources provided by our district's BLM education department to engage our students. Here are some of the BLM activities we will engage in:
- Understanding BLM
- Community and Belonging
- Exploring our collective diversity and its impact on equity, inclusion and fairness.
- Empathy and Understanding
- Black Empowerment and Liberation
In Celebration of the 100th day of school, Ms. Neal, one of our fabulous 3rd grade teachers, has organized a schoolwide gallery walk and parade for our community. During this event, every grade level will demonstrate their understanding of the value of 100 based on their current math unit of study. For example, our third graders are developing their understanding of area and perimeter. For their activity, they will be asked to draw or create a shape that has a perimeter of 100 and share it with their peers.
In honor of Friendship week, our Panther Pride Council will be selling Friendship Grams February 13th - 16th. The Grams will be sold for $1.00 each and will be distributed on the afternoon of February 16th to students in their classrooms. The funds will be used to support our schoolwide ASB functions and events.
Our annual literacy Night is scheduled for Thursday, February 15th from 5:30 pm to 7:00 pm. Please join us for dinner (pizza, salad, and cookies), fun literacy activities, and receive information on how to better support your scholar with literacy skills at home.
As always, thank you for your continued support! Hope to see everyone at Literacy Night!
Go Panthers!

If you wish to have the photo included in this year's yearbook, you may purchase the digital image. Please note, families are responsible for getting the digital image to Ms. Shai by April 5th to be included in the yearbook. Please use the attached link under reschedules or retakes. https://squareup.com/appointments/book/lemv8c9jd6iky3/BZ8Q5A33DSC2J/services
If families would like to purchase images, our vendor will share a link with you and you can order the class group photo and/or additional prints. These orders will be shipped directly to the family's address and not to the school.
If you have additional questions, please reach out to Ms. Ebony. She will do her best to answer all of your questions.

Message from Nurse Lisa
For 3 years COVID distanced us from each other and it also minimized lice transferring from person to person. Now that social distancing is a thing of the past, the lice have started to return.
Children can easily catch lice through contacts with friends at school, home and in the community. Finding lice early makes it easier to get rid of them. Doing regular head checks on your children is your best defense. For more information on lice, how to do head checks, and what to do if you find lice, please read the attached information.
Thank you
Nurse Lisa
