PINE STRAW VENDORS - MAY THE BUYER BEWARE
It is finally Spring and the ideal time to make repairs and improvements to our yards and flowerbeds. For many of us that means adding pine straw. The Board of Directors would like to take a few moments to discuss the inevitable flow of pine straw vendors who come through our neighborhood.
First, there are differing opinions about the value of the goods and services these vendors supply. Some of our members think they provide good products at a reasonable price and would like to see the practice continue. Other members have been victimized or intimidated by unscrupulous vendors and would like to see the practice banned.
So, what are our options? Realistically, the HOA does not have the resources to monitor, vet or ban solicitors from our neighborhood. Control of these vendors will have to come from our individual efforts. Members can choose not to buy from these vendors and choose to contact reputable landscaping companies to install pine straw. If enough of us choose not to buy from these trucks, they will stop coming for lack of business. Also, the sub-division has a “No Soliciting” policy. Any resident could call the Covington Police and have these pine straw trucks cited for trespassing.
We like to remind everyone, if you choose to use the services of an unsolicited vendor, use good business practices. “Caveat Emptor,” “May the Buyer Beware.”
1 - Stay outside and monitor their work.
2 - Have them lay out the bales they need for your job prior to installation.
3 - Get a name, address and phone number in case you have a problem.
4 - Finally, use our Community Face Book page to let your neighbors know if you had a good or bad experience with a particular vendor.
