Differences are okay,
and can be used, in a positive way!
"We're like the way the good Lord made us and wouldn't that be a terrible thing to turn our backs on?"
It's okay to be different! In the book, I.N.S.A.N.E. (a school) is home to lots of things that are "different" and could be considered dangerous. For example, there is a giraffe that lights up, a cricket that can sing, a girl who can fly, twins who have the power to control the weather, etc. At I.N.S.A.N.E., all of these things are given drugs to try to make them lose their differences so that they will become "normal." The thing that Dr. Hellion (she founded the school) doesn't understand is that it's okay to be different and you can use your differences to make the world a better place. For example, one of the students at I.N.S.A.N.E. (Smitty, he has the power of X-ray vision so he can see through things) used his difference to solve a huge crime case and save people from getting a virus. He was able to use his X-ray ability to catch the bad guys who were trying to hide the viruses. Also, the twins with the power to control the weather got rid of a tropical storm that was turing into a hurricane. This shows that without their differences, these people wouldn't have been able to do the amazing things that they did, so it's okay to be different! My quote, "We're like the way the good Lord made us and wouldn't that be a terrible thing to turn our backs on?" is said by Piper McCloud in the story. She thinks that if we're made with differences, we should just go along with them. We can't make our differences go away, so why not make the best of the situation, and use our differences in a positive way to help others. My slogan is "Differences are okay, and can be used, in a positive way!" This means that everyone has differences and that's okay, you definitely shouldn't be embarrassed about them. When I said that differences can be used in a positive way, I meant by helping others or using them to make the world a better place. One example of using a difference to help others in an ordinary way would be to help someone who's shorter than you to reach something if a difference you have is that you're tall. Therefore, it's okay to be different and you should use your differences in a positive way!
