Class 5/6

week 7 term 3

Performing Arts festival

Thank you to parents for volunteering to transport students to the rehearsal at the Lismore Workers Club On Monday and Tuesday of this week. Students performing on the night(s) should be at the Workers Club between 5:30pm- 6:00pm. Students can meet me at the right hand side of the first flight of stairs. Parents will collect students here at the end of the performance, at approximately 8:30pm.

Please note that students are not permitted to leave the school grounds without written permission. Therefore the students not intending to perform on the night(s) or who have not returned permission notes to attend the rehearsals will remain at school and continue with a set learning program. Please see attached flyer for the nightly program details.

Interschool AFL Matches

Our next round of the Interschool AFL will be held at Cabbage Tree Island School on Friday 6th September commencing at 1:pm. All students in 5/6 can participate in the matches. A permission note was sent home last Thursday informing parents of the date and requesting parent help with transport. Please return the notes by Thursday 29th August.

Home work

A reminder that home work is handed out on Monday (Tuesday if Monday is a holiday) of each week. The only week that homework is not handed out is week 1 of term 1 and the final week of term 4. The Department of Education and Communities requires a minimum number of hours per week for each stage in completing homework. The purpose is to provide students with an opportunity to practice concepts previously taught in class, as well as to develop organisational skills in and to take on ownership of their learning. The following information identifies the concepts that make up the weekly homework

Spelling- spelling list-from weekly spelling program The words can be written out or learnt orally

Tables- can be written out or learnt orally

Comprehension- revising comprehension skills

Number w.sheet- Revise number strand in mathematics being taught in class for that week.

Reading- students should be reading nightly books by their favourite authors or readings of interest.

As homework is revision, students should be able to complete the homework independently without too much stress. It allows students to develop good study habits and to take ownership of their learning.

I ask that students return homework on Fridays to allow for marking and discussion.

Please contact me if if you have any concerns in regards to homework.
