# AQR Question

### Cole and Anderson

## Prediction

**Our prediction to how many people are airborne at any given moment is around 1,000,000 people**

## Research

**According to Boeing.com there were 54.9 million logged flight hours**

**There were 25.2 million departures**

**According to IATA.org there were 2.8 billion passengers safely flown**

**Per the NOAA, there are about 5,000 planes above the United States at any moment**

**You also have to take into count that there are 2 pilots on each plane and then the flight attendants (we will say there are 2)**

## Math Work

**Since there were 2.8 billion passengers safely flown and 25.2 million flights, you divide the number of passengers by flights and it gives you about an average of 110 passengers per flight**

**If there are 5,000 planes at any given moment and there is an average of 110 passengers per flight, at any given moment there's about 550,000 people airborne over the United States**

**If there are 2 pilots and 2 flight attendants that adds 4 people to the plane. If there are 5,000 planes in the air this adds 20,000 people to the total**

**This means that at any given moment there are about 570,000 people airborne over the United States**
