Industrialization
Political
The populist party started off as a revolt from a group of farmers who wanted to counteract the political movements of the Democratic and Republican parties. The reason being was because neither of these parties provided the needs of the farmers. They had been suffering from crop failures and poor marketing.
Economic
The Klondike Gold Rush was much like the California Gold Rush. It is estimated that about 100,000 people rushed over to Yukon, Canada in hopes of finding gold and becoming rich. This rush of people extended from the time periods of 1897-1899.

Social & Cultural
The creation of barbed wire is one that would shape and help farming and landowners with livestock. It would provide safe keeping of animals such as cattle or sheep from wondering off into different areas. It helped with securing of the land, and farmers could invest a lot more in their property without having to worry about damages from intruding livestock.
Immigration
Political
The Chinese Exclusion Act would discontinue the immigration of Chinese workers, and only allowed a certain amount of Chinese immigrants to come to America for a certain amount of time
Economic
As more and more immigrants begin moving to the cities, the need for housing began to to rise. This is when tenement housing started to grow. Once cities started to notice that the need for more of these buildings was rising, they started to build them out of cheap material, yet maintained the same rent and kept the same amount of income.

Social & Cultural
Americanization was the idea that we should Americanize all of the immigrants that came into America. People even considered this the "melting pot"
Urbanization
Political
Political machines would steal from the larger cities, and would only protect their very own members. From stealing income to the cities, the members of these political machines would profit themselves and sometimes other big industries they were partnered with. Political machines loved to mostly promise and take from immigrants as they did not know much about these political machines nor their intentions.
Economic
Farmers had a lot of difficulties as factories were being introduced into the America. They lost a lot of profit due to the fact that these bug favorites did the same work farmers did, but more effeciantly. One way they managed this was through child labor, which was very pre leant during the early 1900's. Families would send kids to work for hours on end just to support themselves or even their families.
Social & Cultural
The concern grew more and more for farmers as to how they would continue to bring in profit. Most of these farmers relied on farming and provided for their families through this. However, big factories could get their jobs done much more quickly, and produce much more when it came down to products.
Progressivism
Political
The 19th amendment, very commonly known as women's suffrage, allowed women to vote and have a say in political events such as voting for the president. This act became active August 18, 1920. This would get more people involved in politics and would prove to change the way the government viewed women and their role in society.
Economic
The 18th amendment which prohibited alcohol was thought to make American society better, but only proved to kill the economy of America. This would allow for big time criminals such as Al Capone to rise to fame and make bunches of money off of selling and distributing. Not only did criminal organizations grow, but the government no longer could tax this alcohol going around which killed our economy. This amendment was later repealed when the 21st amendment took action.

Mark Twaine was a man born in Missouri on November 30, 1835. He wrote many great books that were hits and influenced American society and shaped future writing through his somewhat comical writings.
Imperialism
Political
The Platt Amendment which was signed on March 2, 1903. This would help out with the Army Appropriate Bill. This amendment would give seven reasons as to why American would be withdrawing troops rom Cuba towards the end of the Spanish-American War. The final condition, being an 8th one, was the Cuba sign the treaty themselves and agree to these conditiones.
Economic
Panama Canal allowed for trade to be made much more quickly and more often. This would help increase income to the government, and would make our center my grow. Another benefit being that this was less costly for the U.S. to trade through due to the faster traveling distance than other routes.
Social & Cultural
The Monroe Doctrine stated that if any European country tried to take land or wage war vs. any North or South American, the United States could attack this European country
World War 1
Political
The sinking of the Lusitania was what many believe to be the last push factor for the United States to get engaged in war. After this, the president had a legitimate reason to convince congress to go to war against Germany.
Economic
President Wilson wrote 14 points which he thought would get rid of things and make war something that could be avoided in the future. In the 14 points, such things were stated like getting rid of trade barriers between countries. This would help every country gain money. Also, it was stated that countries stop making secret alliances, and the League of Nations was then introduced. However, Wilson would not sign the very own 14 points that he made.
Social & Cultural
League of Nations was created to insure that countries got involved with each other, and so that there wouldn't be as much beef between countries. Introduced by Wilson, he himself did not get America in this.
