ON THIS, THE FIRST SUNDAY after the celebration of Easter, the emphasis is on faith in the presence and power of the living Jesus in our midst. This Risen Jesus now lives on in the community which believes in him. It is endowed with the same powers that Jesus had during his life here on earth. “So many signs and wonders were worked among the people at the hands of the apostles that the sick were even taken out into the streets and laid on beds and sleeping mats in the hope that at least the shadow of Peter might fall across some of them as he went past.”
Things have not changed greatly in our own time. For it is through the Christian community and its witness that people come to know of Jesus and are led to faith in his message of truth and life. It is a witness that rests on the shoulders of every single follower of Jesus and we do it not just by explicitly religious actions but by the very pattern and impact of our daily lives. An impact that arouses both positive and negative responses.
To see and know Jesus in our lives is, at the same time, to recognize where he comes to us and at the same time to be ready for day-to-day opportunities when we can bring him into the lives of others. Above all, can we be true to the mission Jesus gave to his disciples to be makers of reconciliation, to be peacemakers, breaking down walls of hatred, prejudice and fear? We do this by living lives of integrity, of love and compassion, of real justice for all. When we do that, Easter is celebrated and Jesus is alive among us.

TRACK & FIELD
Information and Request for Help
Dear Parents/Guardians,
This is the time of the year where our grade 5-8 students get to demonstrate their running, jumping and throwing skills by participating in the St. JPII Track and Field Meet. Our school meet will be held on Wednesday, May 8th at the Fort High track. All students will meet at St. JPII for attendance and will walk to the track with their teacher supervisor. Students are expected to bring snacks and a bagged lunch for the day. We encourage your child to bring his/her own water bottle to stay hydrated as there will be water jugs provided for students. Finally, our track and field meet will run regardless of the weather so students are expected to dress for appropriately (e.g. hats, sunscreen, sweaters, leggings). In the event of a downpour or snow, we will reschedule the meet to May 13, 2019.
The success of our track and field day depends on the valuable participation of our students and parent volunteers. It is our hope that all of our students attend and participate in the track and field meet as it is part of their physical education requirement. We are also looking for parent volunteers who are able to assist with running events (e.g. lane timers, measuring jump distances, or helping rake the jump pits). If you are able to commitment to a full day (8:30-3:00) or half day (8:00-11:22 or 12:00-3:00) please contact Kalay Dumont (kalay.dumont@eics.ab.ca) by May 3. Your time and effort is highly valued by the staff and students at St. John Paul II and helps to make our track and field day a success. We are looking forward to our annual track and field day!
Yours in Sport,
St. John Paul II Teachers

EICS Family Wellness Worker
Service Delivery
Each school is staffed with a Family Wellness Worker (FWW), who works under the direction of their School Principal and the Assistant Superintendent of Faith & Wellness. FWW's receive clinical guidance from a Registered Psychologist.
The primary function of the Family Wellness team is to provide social and emotional support to students and families. Family Wellness Workers meet with students and parents to assess needs, set goals, identify required supports, and plan appropriate interventions.
They collaborate with school system staff and community resources to build a “village” of support around students/families who are struggling.
Referrals
Parental consent is required for FWW services.
Referrals to the Family Wellness Program may be made by students, parents/guardians, school administration, teachers, or other school staff (e.g. school counsellor or collaborative response coordinator).
Parents and guardians can access these services by speaking with the Principal or contacting the school's Family Wellness Worker directly.
