Online Learning
Online for Fall
The online learning for the 2020-2021 school year will look very different than what the district offered last spring. It will be much more rigorous and require significantly more time than was required during the mandated school closure last year.
We know this is a difficult decision and you will need to do what is best for your family. The survey was sent out on July 31st, so if you have not completed it yet, we need you to do so by August 10th. Just a reminder that you are committing for the entire first semester to online learning if you choose that for fall. First semester ends in January.
Teachers and Curriculum
Students Should Expect
Daily assignments will be given.
Assessments will be given to clarify their knowledge and understanding of the course standards and content.
Grades or marks on their required work and assessments will be given.
Grades at AJSHS will count toward the student’s grade point average.
Instruction will be a combination of teacher created videos/demonstrations and already developed on-line resources from Accelerate.
Zoom meetings with required attendance.
Teachers will provide feedback.
Communication
Some form of two-way communication between the student and instructor must occur. The frequency of that two-way communication will vary depending on the student’s grade level. Elementary students should have daily communication while secondary students, at a minimum, must have at least weekly two-way communication.
Family Support for the Learner
A schedule of what time each day the student will logon and work on each class is essential.
A calendar where parents and students can post due dates is helpful.
Create a designated learning area for the student so they know this is where they do school work and that it is separate from where they do other online activities.
Post their schedule and calendar in the learning area.
Students should plan on spending roughly 1 to 1.5 hours per day/per subject area. Parents will need to support their elementary students during this time. This is similar to the face-to-face classroom.
It is important for parents to monitor student progress with daily checks of what the student accomplished by logging into the student’s account and having the student walk them through what they accomplished.
